Well it's a Lotus seven or a Lotus seven type car, which is the way hot rodding evolved in England. These specials started out as Ford based specials in the fifties and evolved into todays Lotus sevens and Westfields. There are countless productions sevens and self build kits available. Engines are typically Ford, Lotus Ford, Vauxhall (GM) or the Rover fours. They are also available with the Rover V8 (Buick 215). They are brutally quick (see the video taken at Wiscombe Hillclimb, which I went to often as a kid) and have a very low seating position way back by the rear axle. http://www.g.pickett.btinternet.co.uk/Movie.wmv
Does anyone reckon they could keep up with that little car on that hillclimb? I reckon no matter how much power you had, you'd get left behind. "Horses for courses", as we say in England, but those English sports cars are pretty impressive stuff.
I went out four-wheeling for the first time yesterday with an absolutely GONZO friend of mine. I was pretty fun. But I'd rather be at wiscombe hillclimb anyday. That **** looks really fun!!!!!! Does anyone know if they do that here in the PNW? -bill
thats the kind of thing that seperates the men from the boys, looks like a hell of a goodtime to me. jeez that thing is quick.
Thats ****ing insane!! thats a narrow *** course with lots of shadows and this dude is just haulin *** like it's nothing!
i think he grabbed 1st gear for the first hairpin...what a blast. it is really to bad the hill climbing is not more acceptable here stateside. thanks for the rush!
Those Vauxhall XE motors on carbs hit about 8500 rpm, loving it i reckon he's hitting over a ton up there in places that thing is maxed right out on the straight. Watched it 5 times still giving me goosebumps.
Here's a link to some more of that kind of action: http://www.davesweb.com/houndawg/video.asp That is an RX-7 running the old Chimney Rock Hillclimb, which sadly was discontinued after 1995. That race has now settled in further north, in Sparta, N.C., as the Blue Ridge Hillclimb, running this year Aug. 5 & 6. http://www.blueridgehillclimb.com/ They ain't hot rods, but they are fast. Later, *****6
He knows the road. No one drives that fast first time up. You wouldn't know it but that course is the driveway to a manor house and all the greenery is the garden and paddocks. The gentleman who owns the house loves racing and has been holding hillclimbs for decades now.
That Westfield is very similar to what I'm building, except mine is a bit larger to accomodate the wider rear and longer engine. 200hp in a 1200lb car makes for a very exciting ride.
Think about this.... the course has no crash barriers, just trees!!!!! these cars are being built with 2 Suzuki Hyabusa motors!!! 6 speed boxes and all. 500bhp in a 1000lb car oooooooooh i just wet my self! In Warwick (5 miles from my house) there's a young bloke with an Austin Mini........no rear window gl***........it has 2 Yamaha R1 engines mid mounted with the exhaust cans exiting out the rear window......I do think Rapid is the word!
