Going post this a bit early as I am not sure if I will be able to post tomorrow. Been making steady progress on my 1/18th diecast roadster project. I am pretty happy with how it is shaping up. These images only show the model in mocked up stage. Next I will do the paneling in the interior, then I will finish the bodywork and give it a nice shiny black paint job. This will only be a shelf model at this stage so I will not be doing an engine and trans. Geoff aka whodaky
Hey Geoff, looks awesome! Great work buddy. Been a bit slack on the models lately, but picked up a 59 Caddy eldorado that im building into a nice mild watson inspired custom. Got a bit done on the chopped shoebox im building for a friend, had a lot of trouble getting the roof to keep solid, the old plastic might of lost some of its strength?? Will try post some pics tomorow.
Looks good Geoff. Hey I saw the track nose you posted on another thread. That was a fair effort with hand tools. Sean, forget the models. Whats happening on the 1:1 scale cars? Pete
Geoff, that is wild! I almost like it better than your pinstriping. Almost, but your striping is amazing-so I'll put it a close, very close, second. Keep us posted on the progress.
Thanks guys. Krusty it.s not going to look much different and I hope to have it done in the next few weeksa nd will post when it is completed! Geoff aka whodaky
Awesome Geoff! That's one of the meanest/sleek looking models I'v ever seen...How big is it roughly? Cheers MAIKI
WOW Geoff, I think that roadster is gunna be one of your best yet, looks fantastic! I'm still working on the 24th Dillard Coupe between other projects. Started when I chpped a stocker model A, then bobbed the rear fenders Raided a few kits and the aftermarket to find the right ch***is and other parts. Ch***is is aftermarket also, as are finned Buick front brakes. Tube axle is from RM Deuce kit and wheels are from RM Rat Rod kit. Down the back it rides on the correct 9" and coilovers, and it'll have Pontiac tailamps fron the AMT '34 Hot Rod kit The rear pan extension is made from styrene and the firewall from a tiny little plastic wheelbarrow I found in a kids farm toy set. Ever wonder how come every car GM ever built seemed to have an auto trans but every model kit has a manual? I finally found a 350 SBC with TH350 in the RM '37 Ford coupe kit so with deft application of appropriate Corvette parts and a bit of detailing it now almost looks like Don's 327. The aircleaner was hardest part to find and I ended up modifying a peice from one of the Revel parts pack engine kits which I think is about as close as I'll get. At the rate I work it should be finished by Christmas, don't ask what year
Thanks guys for the positive comments. One of my best ever, well I don't know about that. One tends to have favorites in one's collection. Whilst I really like this one I probably have a few that mean a bit more to me. This one has been years in it's evolution, but it wasn't until recently that it's direction really came together. I am building it for the NNL show in Perth in July. Hope to have another couple of projects well on the way for that show also. Maiki this model is 8 inches ( 225 mm ) long and 2 inches (50 mm ) high. I will bring it along to the picnic later in the year. Carp's good to see you posting again, I have been quiet myself also. Don's coupe is looking good. Geoff aka whodaky
Nothing from me yet....maybe later, or tomorrow. However, I DID spy this in some NNL East pictures...
Saving man, saving! Got the frame and cab, now need all the little bits. Heres some ****ty pics of the ****box im building for a mate, will try get some better shots for next week.
I went to the NNL east yesterday and it was awsome !!! here is the pictures i took http://public.fotki.com/Keith__Shannan/keiths_model_car/model_car_shows/nnl_east_2006/ keith
Whodaky, That roadster is rockin'. Love the tonneau. I re-shot my T-bird drag car in black primer today, but while it was drying I trimmed the fenders off an old Revell Austin roadster, and ended up with this: I'm thinking this should end up a late fifties road racing/steet special. Now I just need to come up with an appropriate engine. Dave
nice lookin mods guys. hey gojob, i think that austin/ford combo would easily swallow an AMT Allison V12, how bout a drag car?
Great photos Keith. I just bought a 1/8 scale deuce roadster to build. I noticed that the blue 1/8 deuce on page 1 of your photos had an Ardun motor. Does someone produce one in 1/8 scale?.....Mike
Very cool stuff guys. Been working on the interior for this today. What '60's show rod is complete without a T.v.??
I picked up two of these old Monogram Racing Hydroplanes last month at a model swap. I don't want to try to build them in acetate, so I think I'll probably re-cast the hull, deck and outboard in resin. Here's the one I opened: And here's the one that's still sealed: They're 1:12 scale, so I'll probably build one large scale version, and re-scale another to make an inboard, MEL-powered hydro in 1:25. Weren't instruction sheets cool in the fifties?
I would be very interested in seeing how you modify the frames on those Model A's also. How do you know how much of a kick to put in them and where to put it? If you've got time, how about a model tech? You guys build some fantastic models. Thanks, Mike.
Follow these link to 2 31 fords i built to see how i hacked the frames #1 http://public.fotki.com/Keith__Shannan/keiths_model_car/116_scale_models/1931_ford_minicraft-1/ #2 http://public.fotki.com/Keith__Shannan/keiths_model_car/116_scale_models/1931_ford_minicraft/ keith
Keith, your model cars look like the real thing.....Excellent work....Do you have your own website?...I'm going to build a Big Deuce and I'd like to get some photo ideas..Thanks,Mike
Some of my weird frame mods: This shortened phaeton was Z-ed at the firewall to give it the "broken" look, and get the front way down, and the engine way up: Meanwhile, I didn't actually Z the rear of this A too much because I wanted it on a serious rake: I just shortened the frame, and flipped the whole front half of it upside-down to make the engine sit higher. The front suspension is parallel quarter-eliptic, made from the springs on both the stock and dropped kit axles - there are no parts of this model that didn't come in the box, some way or another. The Lil' Coffin's slammed deuce frame and channelled floorboards fit nice under a Monogram Model A with just slight t*******:
