    Hello, everyone,
    Looking for some help, I have a 39 OLDS sedan, I have recently obtained for a winter project, and I am having a hard time with the VIN number, If anyone has any information or could help me locate it, I would appreciate, it, I have looked and ground down the drivers side frame area across from the steering box and it isn't there, am I looking in the wrong place,? also I have heard that it should be stamped on the engine, block ??? Any thoughts or pictures on this would be useful, thanks Bob

    Hi, that post was put up by a good friend of mine trying to help me out, he introduced me to the site, and I joined, as you can see from the picture i have ground off the area by the front frame, wheel side, across from the steering box, and there aren't any numbers there, maybe I'm not in the right area or the number is on the inside of the frame, also the number that is on the frame over the rear axle is that on the inside or located on the top flange, any help or information will be helpful, thanks again, bob

    If I don`t reply in a couple days, remind me to ask my buddy. He has a 40 Olds. And I know some one with a 41 Olds also.

    Looked at Master parts catalogue and lists 1939 model as:
    • F39, 60 series;
    • G39, 70 series; and
    • L39, 80 series.
    Is it a 2 or 4 door body as I have the VIN series here and production plant sequential numbers, Linden NJ or Lansing MI. Body style # on data plate will identify the style; coupe, convertible or sedan etc.

    My 46 Olds has the number stamped on top of LHF frame above bumper bolt area and stamped on LHR frame rail just forward of rear bar bolt area. Stamping are very feint hand stampings and after looking at your photo, could be almost impossible to decipher.

    Last 4 digits of engine, if original, match the frame # on mine. Engine prefix could be either 6 or 8 depending on cylinders. If hydramatic transmission, engine # could have a H suffix.

    eg. Engine # 6-1733H, frame #1733. Chassis#.jpg

    It's a G39 70 series, 4 door sedan manufactured in Lansing. Serial number range is G300001 through to G354552. Engine number should be on a pad at front left of engine. Some chalk may ID the engine and frame # stampings?

    If it is like Chevy in that era it will be a tag welded to the floor, right about where you put your feet. P***enger side if I remember right.
