Just picked this up last week, got it in the garage. 63 Comet 4 door, factory 260 w/ mercomatic trans. I think it is going to be a neat car. the 3rd pic is the quarter both are about this bad. 4th is the hood. and 5th is the top after we redid it. at one time the top was metalflaked but looked like alligator skin.
Cool! That thing is decidedly low! (Or the guy in the photo is decidedly tall, and maybe both.) The underhood wiring is, um . . . entertaining!)
That underhood wiring reminds me of the wiring in my shop. When I bought the place, my electrician buddy walked into the shop, looked slowly around, and couldn't stop laughing. For what looks like a major fire hazard, it has (amazingly) not yet burned the place down. But that wiring is on my short list of projects too.
got a little more done.. cleaned up the wire mess underhood, and got the new column in with the wood wheel.. still working on the brakes but at least *** shifts now..
That is my son he is 6'3" tall.. the car has cut front springs and 3" blocks with 13" wheels I am going to raise it a bit
That tail panel is just crying out for a third tail light on each side to replace those generic looking reverse lights.
Looks like it could use some Gunk degreaser and pressure washed under the hood. Then you could do some painting and detailing. Looks better already with the wiring cleaned up. Dave
Working on getting the brakes done right now. Degreasing the engine compartment is near the top of the list. Thanks Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's one of those cars where less is more. Spiffed up with decent looking paint but not overdone, interesting and period correct wheels or caps and tires and detailed out. I'd paint the body one of those late model car pearl whites and do your custom painted top that you mentioned and done.
Many years ago, I bought my wife a 63 Ford Falcon Ranchero in an attempt to get her to give up on her 65 Mustang that was nickle-and-diming me to death. Did't work, she thought it rode too harsh; it was lifted at all 4 corners and was a little 'bouncy". It had a 260 with a Holley 2 barrel, dual exhaust, and the 2 speed Ford-O-Matic transmission. It was actually a pretty fun car, and surprisingly quick. It was also held together primarily with rust, chicken wire, and undercoating (I kid you not!). The radiator, front and rear suspensions/brakes, and dual exhaust all went into the Mustang. The engine/trans was going to go in an OT car (Chevette), but that never happened. I'm not really a Ford guy at all, but I believe the heads on 260's have small combustion chambers, so they good for a compression boost on the 289/302 engines. I took as much of the NICE interior out of the car, and sold it all at the All Ford Drags, at Bremerton Raceway. The body went for it's last trip on the back of a hulk hauler. I eventually sold the engine/trans to a Falcon/Comet restoration business. Good little engine! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Thinking about going back to the original color. Black Cherry. With the origonal steel wheels with moons and trim rings until I can find spider caps. Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
