I was bidding on a AOD transmission from a INTERNET auction site and I saw a 1996 S-10 5 speed transmission so I bid on it and won the bid at $10.00. I thought I bid on a T-5 and apparently what I got was a New Venture Gear 3500/1500 and 1996–97 Borg Warner 5 speed manual transmission. Can this transmission be used like a T-5 for a Flathead?
I'm going to say no and as far as I know there are no adapters to bolt them to much of anythng except what they were intended to be bolted to. Interesting trans to put behind a straight six or mild small block in something that you want to make miles down the highway with though. Another thread on them here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/gm-nv3500-5-speed.
That's the bad news , the good you are only down $10. Do a search for flat ernies " ultimate T5 tech" to guide to the correct transmission which are generally in the $300 plus range though can be to for a lot less at the right time and place.
If the man only paid ten bucks, it's a deal and a 1/2! Someone will want it, a little moneymaker if nothing else.
The 4.3L V6 Getrag works behind a small block V8......This is not that trans.....I believe the one pictured is for a 4 cylinder ....It may fit some 60* V6 engines. Ray
Is it a NV1500 or NV3500? From my OT Dakota shop manual: MANUAL - NV3500 DESCRIPTION The NV3500 is a medium-duty, 5-speed, constantmesh, fully synchronized manual transmission. Fifthgear is an overdrive range with a ratio of 0.73:1. TheNV3500 is available in two and four–wheel drive configurations. The transmission gear case consists of two alumi-num housings (Fig. 1). The clutch housing is not a removable component. It is an integral part of the transmission front housing. MANUAL - NV1500 DESCRIPTION The NV1500 is a medium-duty, 5-speed, constant mesh, fully synchronized manual transmission. Fifth gear is an overdrive range with a ratio of 0.80:1. The Transmission is available in 4-cyl. equipped 2WD models. The transmission gear case consists of two aluminum gear housings and a detachable clutch housing. Neither seems like something you're going to attach to a flathead. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
No typo $10.00 I got a 88 AOD for $20.00 and when I went to pick the tranny's up, someone had taken the converter and they knocked off $5.00.
