I bought a piece of property and while clearing brush I found a car in the weeds. I shot a video of it and have since found out it is a 1933 Pontiac Stake Express. I did not know Pontiac ever made a truck. It is pretty far gone and a lot has already been scavenged. I will eventually send it to the scrapper but want to make sure there are no parts on it of any use. Any constructive advice is welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Usually when car guys want to see pics of parts we turn our fish eyes off. It's hard for us to determine if the thing is really bent out of shape, or just artsy.

  3. I bought some property a few years back in SW VA and thought it would be neat to find an old car or something else of interest. No such luck, or maybe that is a good thing since I don't have to haul it off.

    Neat find just the same.

You can buy a decent metal detector for a couple of hundred bucks. Were there any Civil War battles in your area? There could be all kinds of interesting items a few inches below the surface. Check out the link below which shows some unbelievable finds using metal detectors. Good luck....

That is the nature of a GoPro I guess. I would be glad to get you better pictures if you can tell me what you would like to see?

  8. I'd think someone could make a killer little Modified or at least a Doodlebug out of what's there.

The Cowl looks good enough to start a cheap build with and that grille shell may have some issues, but a dedicated guy with the right skills and tools could save it (I probably could actually).

The frame looks pretty decent to me and that sweep over the rear end is a nice feature. Being a truck, it's probably way sturdy enough to take more engine than it's got.

The engine and driveline might actually be salvageable. It's buttoned up so if it's stuck, it can probably be un-stuck.

The hood is worth keeping if only even for those louvers.

I think someone could do something REALLY cool with what's there as a whole or in parts. I really don't see much scrap, honestly.

I'd not send that to a scrapper. If nothing else id keep that cowl fenders and grille for yard art.

  12. Just call me the scrapper and send it my way. I would like to have that heater.

Tell us more about the '33 Pontiac "Stake Express", please. Many of us have been Pontiac fans for years and have no knowledge of this unit.

It's amazing what turns up in the weeds--and what you can do with it! :)

Why not let it rust in piece? It would be an interesting piece of yard art, far better than scrapping IMHO!

If I lived close to you I would be there in a minute to take it away and even mow the weeds around it for you. It looks bad but lots of cars in worse shape have been resurrected. Put an ad on Craig's List and see if it gets scooped up by someone.

I like the fenders, hood, radiator & shell....as an artistic presence....sort of like a 'sentinel' ...cleaned up a little bit, would look kinda cool;)

  21. That has some nice lines from the cowl forward. Frame seems decent shape. If nothing else, you could part it for some cash before scrapping what is left.

  25. post it for sale here on the hamb for more than what it's worth in scrap and someone will buy it and keep it from being ground up and sent to china. Let it rust in peace or help out a hamber that will do it good. Lots of good parts I see. China has already got to many of our history's metal. There is more than enough talent here to make it run and bring it back from the dead. I would love to be brought back to life 50 years after I dead. That thing has a soul do it good.

  26. Well, on ePay, a Pontiac Straight 8 block seems to trend north of $500. Real world pricing is usually around half to 3/4 what people ask on there.

Other than that, I'd say go by comparable notaford pricing at least double the scrap value.

Hypothetically, if I was close and had somewhere to stash it for a while, I'd be a taker around $400 to $600 (depending on what it looks like close) after dickering you down from a somewhat higher number and maybe a little trading.

You've got less than a ton of steel there, which is selling at somewhere between $190 & $200/MT, so, probably, assuming there's 1000lbs of steel there and 25lbs of copper radiator, you're looking at about $120 in scrap for all the effort of pulling it out of there. So, really, anything over that and some help getting it out and off to someone who's going to save not shred it is a big win.

I don't think so. The job number on the tag on the firewall crosses over to a "Stake Express" and the neighbors, who had no idea it was a Pontiac, say it used to have a bed on it.

  28. You've got the start of a modified there. It's in better condition than what I started out with...
