As of 4:00 pm central time today I will be retired from 30 years with the USPS. Here in Waco, TX we still have the same city carrier vehicles LLV-Long Life vehicle we got in 1987! They outlasted me. Hope to have more time to work on my car, but it's deer season now.

That's great, I retired labor day 2003. It's great not having to go to work every day.

Been retired 6yrs. Seems like I'm busier now than when I was working. I wonder how I ever got anything done. One thing didn't change though, never enough $$$$$.

When I retired, my wife reduced her honey-do list to just one item.....rebuild the 90 year old house we live in! When we lived in Colorado, we had a custom 6 bedroom 3 bath house with 3 rec rooms up in the foothills overlooking Colorado Springs! It was built in 1962, and the 4300 sq ft was perfect for us because I ran a business out of the house using 63% of the space for the business(made for big tax deductions). We bought it in '92 and I spent 10 years remodeling and many$$$$ getting rid of that '60's look......a look that's great for a car, not so great for a house. Anyway, after 10 years of that, I definetly, positively, absolutly wasn't going thru that again.
I'll be back later, gotta get back to my bathroom remodeling.....lol...our ONLY bathroom.
    I told y'all I was retarded!

Lived 26yrs in the house in Mi. before I moved to Az. House was built around 1870. Should have seen some of the things I pulled out of the walls. I was there so long I was remodeling things I had already remodeled once.

Did not really know when I would retire either. Everyone said "you will know when it's time". They were right ! Unloaded 30 tires off a truck , hot, sweaty, out of breath. At that moment I made up my mind.
    Thanks all for the congrats!

That is AWSOME. Our facility got downsized and all the equipment and people had to go. We actually had 4 of them come to the VMF and became darned good mechanics! (I never worked anywhere but the VMF)

Congrats! We're in the same boat! 30 years as a BEM with USPS. I've been retired 1 month. Oct. 28 was my last day. You're gonna luv it! Hope you have a few $$$ put away. You probably already know this but, it'll take OPM 6-8 months to process your retirement app. In the meantime, you'll receive about 70% of your annuity each month. If you qualify for the FERS benefit (3/4 of your social security), you won't receive any of that until after your app is processed. And, it's only based on the amount you've put into SS during your postal service career, not the total amount over your entire working life. They always find a way to stick it to you! If you make it through all that and you've been investing into your TSP from the start, you'll be sitting pretty. For me, I'll be making the same amount in retirement as I was working. Not having to go to work every morning is liberating!

I retired in June 2015 and just loved retirement life, Its the best and one job that I am really really good at! :) The company asked me to come back on contract at 3 days a week so I am doing that for a few more months and then back to full blown retirement. The $$ they pay is really helping buying the parts for the 56. :)

Congrats for sure! I retarr'd about 1 1/2 years ago after nearly 40 years with the DoD in several different capacities. Hard to believe it was so long ago that I swore to ". . . support and defend the Cons***ution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. . ." Enjoy your retirement, it might not last as long as your work years did!

I have 35 years in the defense industry, all at the same company. 3 years left and I cannot wait. I just applied for my wife's SS survivor benefits and will know the outcome late in the year. If I can bolt sooner, I will.

Bobss... are you near Bohemia? I worked with a defense contractor out there a few years ago. Spent a week or two working there with them. DTB?

I'm close to Bohemia and DTB does work for who I work for. I work for a company that came out of the old AIL facility in Deer Park.
