It not the dollars that make the car...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RacerRick, Mar 26, 2006.

  1. I am NA and built for spray. Haven't run it yet. He does. It would cost me about $500 to get deep into the 11's - a nitrous kit, just like his. What annoyed me what that I had the car for sale and the guy knew it and was loudly annoucing to everyone how ****ty it was. Several people were interested at the car meet until he wouldn't shut up.

Sold it to a friend instead last night.

As soon as they start that "my **** is better than your ****"...I immediately just say that's nice and walk away. There are a lot of them out there and I've never enjoyed talking with any of them. There are too many cool people that we have never met to waste a second on an ***hole. The whole time you are "discussing" why his **** is better than yours, you could be having fun ********ting with someone that gets it. Life too short to waste a second on dead ends. Move on.

All of that negative energy that got you upset enough to start this post could heve been eliminated just by walking away. The natural reaction is to respond in kind but it only takes a few minutes with the cool people to erase that ***hole. The shorter the time spent...the quicker it is to erase. Hot rodding is a lot more fun with the right people.

I was with my older brother once at a community car show. This dip**** walks up and looks his A-Bone pickup over and says...you need to finish it and paint it red with some graphics down the side. LMAO..my brother looked at him and said "It is finished, that primer is older than you are and just what the **** do you drive.......this is my only car". I was rollin over that....rofl.

I always say things like this to those guys.... " Didja see Jacks car? It all full of that dated billet ****, and his pait job is the same yellow and grey that everyone of those high dollar . 1-800 Hot Rod guys is spraying on ". They have no idea that TRADITIONAL is the thing"
It makes them feel so insecure and non - special they go out and put a bullet in their head

  6. Looks like he got under your skin just a little. :D

I like 'em a little rough myself, but something you got to remember is that same guy would have spent just as much to achieve the rough look that you got without even trying.

Its all because of ***** envy, if someone doesn't think that their ***** is as big as someone elses they will find a way to compensate. Your buddy with the big wallet dont need a big ***** he has a big wallet.

Next time he gives you a hard time about cost and how much nicer his car is than yours just pull your zipper down and say, " Oh yea, well lets show 'em." ;)

Here's what I think-that guys car that he paid so much to build is soul-less. Its a new car that is no fun to drive, and the only satisfaction he gets from it is thinking that other people are looking at him when he drives it. I prefer to build my own car, out of steel, and appreciate the history that is in the car. My car is fun to drive because its raw, not some fluffy street rod full of creature comforts. I would rather go deaf and sweat my *** off than ride in that guys plastic pos.

hey just be happy with what you have! _uck everyone else and there opinion. there will be always one upsmanship in every hobby. its likesomeone will tell you yes i have every bodystyle in the 1932 ford line big deal right now they are way overated cars yes they are expensive but not rare by anymeans. take of an example if you found a murray bodied 32 that was an original car as found there will always be the guy that comes up to you that has a better car such as saying no one ever farted in the seat. it will keep going you know what i mean. i am perfectly happy with the cars i have garage ,tools, house , wife and family, sur i do not have a lot of tools or money for that factbut it makes me work all the much harder doing a project with what i have. enjoy what you worked hard for i know i have mike

Yea dude that ****s. He was way out of line especially if he knew you were tryin to sell it. Having said that, it shouldn't really matter what that guy says. Your car should be able to stand on it's own regardless of how ****ty or how nice someone else thinks it is. That guys opnion, or anyones opnion for that matter, is really meaningless. The only one that counts is yours & the potential buyers. Since you sold it last night I would say the only opnion that matters is the guys that bought it.
My opnion. nitrous is for *****s!

...this type of idiot doesn't care if your car is high-dollar or low-dollar sometimes...case in point: I took my unfinished car to the Starbird show just for the hell of it, and a guy comes up and asks if this is my new car. Then he starts tellin' me about how much nicer and more expensive his car is...that's when I turned and walked away...while he was still talkin'.;)

It really is a ***** envy kinda thing. They just can't handle seeing you have fun with your own car, especially when it's so.... crude... and cheap.

Tell him you hope he has fun with all the money he's blowing on his car, because you're damn sure having fun with all the money you're blowing on yours. :)

Hey Guys, is it about money or some ***holes insecurity? I am coverting from the dark side, and the fact is, it costs money to build a car. Doesn't matter how much. The cost is relivent to your income. By that I mean, if one guy can afford to buy completely rebuilt carbs to put on his 3-deuce set-up, is he a lesser car guy than the guy who rebuilt his own? Some may say yes, but that same guy may have fabracated his own motor mounts, or ****** mount. What I'm tring to say is, its all about building your own car. The guy who gets me is the guy who just buys a complete car and takes credit for building it. Or the guy who buys it and than sees how much money he can make reselling it. Coming from the ranks of the street rodders, most of the guys in that hobby do build thier own, lower dollar drivers. Most are older empty nesters with extra income that can go to car events over 3 or 4 days, that's OK. Let's keep our focus on the cars, and our chosen way of building, enjoying, and having fun with them.

  16. I think that the point was that the high roller was bad mouthing the low dollar guy. Its a common practice. No one likes it and no one will ever stop it, you just have to consider the source and go on with life.

Personally mines like a baby's arm holdin' an apple, oh we were talking about cars weren't we? Well like I said:rolleyes:

    You built it- be proud
You bought it- be proud somewhere else

  18. Well put, we are just out to have fun with our cars and meet some good people that share a common interest. Life is too short to really give a **** about someone like that, anything more than a "that's nice" and walk away is a waste of time and energy...I'm sure everyone has to deal with ***holes M-F, 9-5, why piss away your weekend dealing with another one.

I had all the work on my 66 F100 done by other people all I did was take from one place to another. When it was done it looked great but it realy wasnt mine. Now I am working on a 49 fleetline the only moving I did was to get it to the barn I work in. I have busted my nuckles, ****ed up and started over, and every time I work on it i seem further away from finishing it, but its mine. The guyes just envious because he doesent have the tallent or currage to do it him self, braging about the mony spent is just a weak attempt to make himself feal better.

You've already waisted more effort than the *** hole is worth posting here. He wouldn't need to attack you if he didn't think he wasn't ****. My guess is if all the people that built his car where there they would have been talking cars with you and he knows it.

  27. Cuz, most of us have experienced something along these lines therefore we're experienced in this particular subject.

Tech posts - aside from asking a question or adding something to it - aren't really a discussion forum and many times we don't know jack about the subject and are there to learn.
The HAMB is grammar school and college at the same time.

I've known some really nice guys who fit the term Gold Chainer and I've known some really nice guys who do it all - or most of it - themselves.

I've never seen a builder type get up on the ol high horse and act know-it-all or refuse to answer questions.

The majority of the chainers I've known are usually well informed and ask questions so they can learn.
    The learning part, important.
They still had the work done, but who cares?
If they enjoy the hobby and like to hang out with interesting guys and gals and see interesting cars so much the better for all of us.

The type of guy putting down RacerRick's car is found in any venue.
And it's not always guys, sometimes, not often, but sometimes, women will do it as well.

Some of these people need something, almost always they need to stand above their fellow man - & woman - and be elitist.
Elitist in their own minds anyway.
If they can't climb a hill, they can sure as hell attempt to tear it down to their own level.

People like that can go to hell far as I'm concerned.
Life's too short to argue with em and you ain't gonna win anyway.

Hot rods, sailboats, shooting or whatever . . . when these braggarts can't get to the top or the perceived top, they usually go elsewhere.

A wise man once said, "Try to make these kind of people happy and before long they'll own you."
Paraphrased from memory, but I'm pretty sure you can see what I'm saying.

These look-down-upon-you-types are liars pure and simple.

And the person they lie to the most is the guy in the mirror....

yeah, **** rich people with faster cars.

  29. Hell **** anyone who doesn't have the common sense to repect your space. Rich or poor, fast or slow, Modern or trad.

I'm probably the most opinionated(sp) car guy I know, but I don't let it affect my strongest opinion, that is its your ride, build it the way you want and let everyone else be damned.

  30. That's painting with a pretty broad brush.

If it weren't for some of these well to do people hot rodding wouldn't be where it is today.

Then again, some of the elitist types are mortgaged to the hilt and not as rich as they'd like you to think they are.

They don't call jealousy the Green Eyed Monster without good reason.

You gotta ask yourself where you'd be if you got rich all of a sudden.
Easy to think you'd be the same old lovable soul all your pals think you are, but more than likely you'd step up a notch in the hot rod biz.

The trick is to remain the same old lovable soul you've always been....
