I would like to know what taillight bulbs folks are using in '28 thru '39 tail lights. Is there a LED bulb worth a hoot? I bought a pair for the lights and the ones I purchased are not as bright as the bulbs in it now. Looking for suggestions.

Try painting the inside of the light housing white. One of the car mags did a test years ago and white reflected more light then silver.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. I will try the white background as I now have the buckets painted silver.

LED's really are the way to go IMO. Less load and more light output in the needed spectrum. They also light up faster than incandecents buying you a little bit of reaction time from the guy behind you. If you have turn signals hooked up and you still have regular bulbs in your front turn signals on the same circuit, you shouldn't need to get a flasher until every bulb is LED on each side of the turn signal system.

These are the brightest 1157's i know of that don't ****. A little expensive at $25 each but again, this hopefully keeps someone from hitting you. Remember, match the color of the LED to the LENS it sits behind. So red lens = red led bulb. This maximizes the output in the color that actually makes it out of your lens. A red led will be far brighter than a white one behind a red lens.

These are not as bright (but still are way better than incandecent) and will fit in any housing. $15 each
