screw him just ignore his stupid comments its not worth it. As sam always says it takes time+skills+money to build a care any less of one and you need more of the other he must be lacking in the skills department.

  3. "beauty is in the eyes of the beerholder" if you like your car be proud, others do too! if you built it for others pleasure then your right by selling it.
I had a primered dropped and flamed 56 Olds 88 hardtop, my total investment including the purchase price was under 2 grand. a friend had 40 grand in a 41 chev coupe, following me to a event he had 4 cars that cut him off to get a better look at my Olds. When we got there he had someone standing on his bumper trying to photograph the flames on my hood and roof. been 5 years and he is still pissed. (better to be pissed off than pissed on)

Let's see, we've got folks bad mouthing other folks and their rides because they don't agree with them. Is it the goldchainers or the hambers? Looks like two sides of the same elitest coin to me.

The reality of it all you built your car. He didn't, you can go home at the end of the day look at it and feel good about what you brought back to life. He probably goes home at the day and digs through the piles of Visa and Master card bills working longer at his daily job to cover them. This leaves him less time to drive it.
    It is all ones perspective.

How I learned the HAMB mentality early on: 1984, I was eleven years old, at a rod run somewhere with my dad. We had driven our sixties-built, survivor, '40 Tudor. It was Firemist green metallic, with heavily patina'd, yellow to orange flames on the nose.

It had the stock front axle, ran slot mags, had black 'hyde, chrome garnish moldings, sbc with pg, '57 Pontiac rear. Overall, it was cool but crusty, and we knew it.

So I wandered over to a typical mid-80's, chopped, Porsche-red, deuce tudor, to get a look-see. I overhear some dude say: "Hey guys, did you see that green '40 with the flames (I perked up)? It sure ain't a street rod, more like a peice of ****! But that's what hot rods were, I guess."

I didn't know what to think. Kick him in the balls, or thank him? What a back-handed compiment. I told my dad, and he just smiled.

It is not the dollars that make the car....That's right and don't forget it.
Bottom line is a build takes more heart, sweat, character and patience vs. money. You do what you can, when you can and it's more gratifying than going into debt for the labor of love of the finished product.
My dad has NEVER had unlimited funds like alot of others and refused to sacrafice living just to crank a car out for the sake of anyone but himself and what he could swing doing.

Yup, like my Yooper friends say "That road runs both ways"

  18. OK here's my $.25 worth. I've got this cool hot rod sitting in my garage. I went from a high paying job to a low paying job (heart problems) anyway. I used to go to the Goodguys and see all the $10,000 paint jobs and it depressed me knowing I couldn't keep up. So my 40 sat out there in the garage becoming a catch all. I found the HAMB last summer and went to the DRAGS. OH MAN WAS THIS PLACE FOR ME. I've always been a hot rodder not a street rodder. As an auto mechanic I like to do the work myself. I take pride in what I do and I appreciate what others do with their hands. Let's keep the HAMB the way it is.The money isn't evil the people are. I know guys with alot of jack that are good dudes, I also know poor ***holes. nuf said
My car will run this summer thanks to the HAMB.

Happens all the time with lottery winners.
Rich people know how to manage their $$$. Poor people don't.

There are knuckleheads in every crowd. They are rich and poor, talented and non-talented.
Respect and the love of hot rods is all it takes. The one thing I love about cars and the hobby is the people. 99% of the people you meet are great and would stop on the highway if they saw any old car broke down and offer to help. The other 1% are ***holes and aren't worth worrying about. Have fun and screw the 1%ters.
