Got the suspension into the truck last week. I figured if I was gonna splurge anywhere, it'd be here... hence the air ride. Need to finish weld everything and beef up some of the mounting points, but that's for next time. Also gonna change out the chunky motor mounts for something a little more slick. Also for next time. www.blowupthespot.com/ford
Nice splice on the sub frame! Alway`s liked the old Fords & remember many used as shop trucks growing up. Keep us updated.
The clip is from a mid 70's camaro. The stance is actualy a bit lower in the front than what is pictured. The mock-up pic is with the stock camaro front springs, and the frame is resting on the top of the rear. The bags dropped it from stock in the front, but the rear is about the same at ride height. I'm gonna try to keep the stance about where you see it by the time I have 15's on both ends and some bigger tires. Actually, that brings up a few questions i have... It looks like there are some diamondback wide whites that are about 30.5" tall. I'd like to get a sense of what they look like on something similar... anyone have any pics? Are they completely wrong for this application? The rears that are on there now measure about 27". the fronts are like 25". I need a little more ride height so an extra 3 or so " will do me right... unless anyone has any better suggestions for tire size???? I figure the bigger size will give me a little more "tuck" in the fenders also. -B
hey! whereabouts in jersey are you from? dirty jerz to me is anything south of gl***boro and west of the shore. i'm in oaklyn right at the foot of the walt whitman bridge anyway though, check out the pictures of my truck in my sig line. it has 205/70R14 tires on the front and 235/75R15 tires on the back... actually, it had 255/70R15 tires on the back in some of the pictures, but both sizes have the same outer diameter. ed
Thanks, those pics are pretty helpful... I'm actually up a little further in Jersey, kinda near Sandy Hook, off Rt. 36 and believe me, there's lots of "dirty" up here too! What's with the rear wheels??? are they just reverse? How wide are they? -B
The truck came with 15x8 reversed rims and 255/70R15 tires. They looked great and really filled the wheel wells, but there was only about a half inch of clearance on either side. Whenever I took a hard turn they'd rub, so I traded them to Chopolds for a set of 235/75R15 tires mounted on standard offset 15x6 rims. The 255's went on his Ford truck, which is a '51... I think. That truck has widened rear fenders and 400+ hp, so the wide tires worked out a lot better. Well, there it is, my life story. Cool looking truck you've got there. Hopefully I'll see it around at one of the shows. Are you going to the Jalopy Showdown? PS- Since those pictures were taken, the truck's been completely blown apart and will be sporting seafoam primer and new mechanicals the next time it sees pavement.
Lookin really good man, truck looks really nice at that height. I've toyed with the idea of baggin mine but I keep talking myself out of it. I'm sure it will ride nice though. Great choice for the mill too. IMHO nailheads are the best looking motor around...curious what size motor is that?
It's a 401 out of a 65 Riv that I parted out recently. Also have a dual quad setup for it (sitting next to it in the pics). Should look pretty nice when it's all dolled up. I had it re-built a few years ago, when I was driving the Riv that it came from, so I hope to not have to do too much to get her fired up again.
