Hot Rods 33 ford vin question

hi all , new project.got a 33-34 truck and had a questiin about the vin on the frame.it starts
*I8-54####*.is the first number-letter is an I, T, or a 1. it looks like an I to me.ive heard that its an I but is read as a1.thanks for the help guys

 

It's a number 1, Ford changed the font of the 1 and the 6/9 sometime in the early '30's IIRC. Common lore says it was done to discourage restamping by car thieves because the new font was not available to the general public.
Oh, and the 18 designates your truck as a V8.

Serial numbers for 1933 went from 18-203127 to 18-457477. Your serial number is for a 1934.
