R&c June Vintage Tin Issue!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy, Mar 25, 2006.

  1. All right, My R&C June Vintage Tin issue arrived! Thank You Kevin Lee! Keep up the great work! Starting with the cover car, just where is that 33/34 - 3-W coupe at? It is a nice contrast to the May issue, almost like a way before and a way after. :D Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

Killer chopped '36 coupe illustration in this issue, from the HAMB's very own Brush.

I think it blew! (just wanted to make this post run 6 pages instead of 1 response and a quick death).

The Rudy AV8 rules!! The magazine sure has gotten better. It's one of just a couple even worth looking at anymore.

Just my usual refelection the praise posts go five responses tops- while ***** posts can run on forever/ or till the post gets locked down. Actually hope everyone likes the issue.

Glad everyone liked it. Been sitting on that cover for a while now just waiting for the right time. Was almost surprised that I got it through as I wasn't too sure some of the higher-ups would get it.

  14. I did't get it Friday. I didn't get it Saturday. And if I don't get it tomorrow it will be JimA's fault for sure. Or may be the mailman's mule is sick.

I got mine Saturday and took it to work. Read it cover to cover during my stops over night. I've been reading R&C since around 1961 and it has to be the best it has ever been. I'd probably have the big one if I ever found a '32-'34 3 window lurking someplace just waiting on me to take it home. Then they could bury me in it. Too many dirt tracks in the Ohio, Indiana, Michigan triangle used up all of the good stuff by the late '50s. All I ever found was Model A sedans and newer stuff like late 30s on up when the stuff wasn't that popular.

Its very surprising that your bosses let you run that article. For 30 years the magazines have always claimed there is no more vintage tin left. Obviously they havent been to Texas or Oklahoma or Arkansas or Kentucky or Tennessee. For those who look to the magazines for good informaton, it was pretty disappointing that they claimed there were no more old cars waiting to be rescued. We can easily find many ol cars in those states and we wondered if the magazines were misleading us on other matters too. Eventually we learned that the magazines profits came from advertisers and not from the folks who buy the magazines.
The young guys new to the hobby are reading the magazines which too frequently call a car a fordor phaeton (umm, No. Its one or the other) or a 1932 convertible (umm, No. Its a roadster or maybe its a phaeton). Often the magazines mislabel a roadster as a cabriolet. A cabrioilet has windup windows.

It has been looking real good lately. I browsed through it when I got it and haven't had a chance to sit down with it yet. I did read the vintage tin article, it was great. Most car guys I know would pick up a magazine with a "barn find" on the cover before they would a finished car...that includes the gold chain crowd, of course they vision it riding on billet 20's:rolleyes: :D

Good job. Keep up the good work.

It is a great issue. I just got mine last night and it's waiting in the car for my lunch break. Rudy's roadster is breathtaking and I love the cover car. My only question is for Jeff "Brush" Norwell: Cool '36, but why an automatic trans when the car is set up for handling?

I dunno, a four-, five- or six-speed manual just seems more oriented to corner carving. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, though. Nevertheless, beautiful illustration and a cool concept.

I agree, but I have been in alot of late model drives that handle very well with autos,....and I guess I was just trying to shuffle the mix.

Just like your signature sez.....I like cars that look old....
My intention of doing these drawings is just to throw ideas around for the readers.....just food for thought
    nothing more,nothing less
Thanks for the props ...much app.

  25. I thought it ****ed. I searched cover to cover and didn't find one picture of my car!

See, JimA, lots of people liked the magazine and are saying so......except LaGrasta........you guys are doing a great job. Don'tet the few complainers get you down.

  27. HAhahahahahahahahahah:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

    ;) JimA:p

IT is a pretty good one this month.

    AHhahaha I'm still cracking up.

  28. Yeah, it is looking pretty good these days. I really liked the chop top story. So now how about doing a bag story? You could call it "Bagging a Bird" and use my Falcon for the story. Hey! Now that's a grand idea!
I let my Custom Rodder expire. Too many duplicate stories. I do get Hot Rod and Car Craft though. Both are notches above what they have been in the past.
Keep up the good work Jim.

everyone loves a cynic (did i spell that right??)! :D GEEZ. this place has realy gotten you jaded Jim. maybe you should take a nice long break, like i did.

i picked the mag up at the newstand today (why i have'nt renewed my subscripition yet is anyones guess) and all the pictures are very pretty:D . i have'nt read much of it yet.

i do have one complaint (if it'll help keep this thread on the front page for Jimbo). i'm not one to rip on anybody's work, and i would'nt say a word if it were'nt featured in, what i concider to be, one of the top hot rod mags but the way he lays that FLAT piece of sheet metal into that roof in the chop top tech article is, in my opinion, just WRONG!!
sure, i realize that people have done alot worse things and that it is certainly not the worst way to do what he's trying to do there but i've come to expect a certain level of profesionalism and quality in the tech articles (and everything else) from this magazine.
before anyone starts tearing ME a new one. yes i can and yes i HAVE done better. nough said there. i'm not trying to insult anyone at all or get into a "my **** stinks better than yours" contest. i know with a little mud that chop will look as good as any. i'm just a bit of a perfectionist i guess and a fan of fine metal work.
ya just don't put a (large) flat piece of metal where a compound curved piece of metal needs to do. it seems like somewhat common sense if your into this kind of work.

ok, i've dug my hole and tried to explain myself as best i can to get out of it. if ya don't care for my opinion, tough. if i hurt anyones pride, i appologize, that was not my intention.

I just wanted to thank JimA for posting my pics in there. I got my issue yesterday when the mail came at about 4:00. I sat down and started flipping through it. I was looking through the vintage tin section and satring at the picture of the 3-window on page 59, knowing that I have that picture saved on my hard drive since I used to have it as a back ground. I wondered whose car on the HAMB it could have been and decided to look through and see if there were any cars I recognized. I look over to page 58 and, "Holy S***!" My wife says, "What?"
"My car made it into Rod N' Custom."
    "Nuh-uh. Which car?"
"The model T." So I showed her the pictures and she busts up laughing. I had to call my buddy Nic and my ex-father-in-law who are actually pictured in the article and tell them we made it. They are both waiting for it to arrive on newstands. The funny thing is I had completely forgotten that I had sent in the pictures to Jim quite a while back and I was wondering how they got the pictures. My son really thought it was cool when I showed him a little later in the evening. Seven year olds really think you're special if you get into a magazine.

Just want to say Thanks Jim.
