I have a 34 Ford tudor with the interior door handles in the middle of the door. The passenger side you push the handle forward to unlatch the door. The drivers side you pull the handle to the rear to open. This doesn't seem right it seems like either they both push or both pull to open the door.

  2. I did that when I put a rear door remote on the front of the 32 coupe. Was maybe a right on the left from a fordor.

Should the handle push forward to open. It seems like that would make more sense.

Yes they should both either forward open or rearward open. From what Ive heard, Ford switched the direction somewhere mid year. I think it had something to do with them getting caught on the person as they entered or exited....of course this might be all hogwash. Anyway, you need to find anther latch to match one you already have.

Does any one know which way they should move to open forward or backward since I have one of each.

One latch was made by "Swiss" and one was made by "Ford". Why they made it two ways??, See the one on the right has an extra pivot. I'm in the same boat, one of each and did not notice till I had them all restored. Maybe we could trade one?

on my tudor they both push forward to lock, pull back to open. rumor i've heard is they switched to this style so you could not accidently push the latch open

Mine are exactly like yours the same pivot on the driver's door. Too bad we didn't have the opposite latches I would trade instead of looking for a new latch

stillrunners, those are interesting. Sure looks close, looks to be three pair? The center pair has the forward handles. Interesting all have outside key lock on both sides.

  17. Well....there's more - just pics of the clearest ones - they should be repo's as they never any of them had the Ford paper tag on them ? They were swap meet stuff I got maybe late 80's ? Should I take the picture of the others - the one with the arm was the only one with one. They do have LF and RH on them.....some have the long body and the others are a short body.....

Your # 1 & 2 are the closest to mine, remote handle, Mine are 7 15/16 X 4 so could not be sure it would fit in the door recess without trying. Not sure about the others because they are the early forward handle style. Thanks

I just measured mine they are 8" tall and 4” wide. That is 8 tall not including the lever just the body of the latch mechanism. I can't get the picture to upload says it is too big.

Ford Passenger car used a out side door lock on the RH side only, the LH side latch mechanism typically do not have the lock mechanism incorporated as some of the examples above. The rear doors of the deliveries have a lock also. The 33-34 restoration book list 3 different style latches for 33 early 34 and two for 34. The 34 latches have a shorter rectangular body than the 33 early 34 which is 10 1/2" tall. All three styles of the 33 early 34 latch would be also be the same height.

I would like to publicly thank stillrunners for the door latches. He was more than generous. I made a donation to the highwayman's y block fund gladly. I needed to pass on the generosity and willingness to help a fellow car guy that was a total stranger. Thanks again stillrunner.

Hi I'm a new member and I would like to know if you have any more 1933 Ford door latch mechanisms left and right. I see you sold a set and I was just wondering if you have anymore. It's a two-door sedan suicide door

  28. Just got rid of two sets on here a month ago in the classifieds and one set of right side's is all I have left. They are listed in the classified's with pictures as 33/34 Ford. Please send me a private message - thanks.

Strange things , I didn’t understand between 32 3W latches and 34 5W latches . My 32 3W handles you lift up or back to lock , my Buddy’s 34 5W , the latches were the forward style and moved forward to lock , closing the door to hastily and you were locked out of the 34 . Was this correct operation of a 34 or what was the issue ? I had to help him many times free the locked door to enter .
