Fought for almost 4 years in the late 80"s to get Pomona opened for the once a month street drags had serveral cops and chp from all over sign petitions and volunteer etc. tunners with attitude, fighting, excessively loud radios, drugs and all out disrespect got it all shut down.. first few times I went was a nightmare all day for 2 passes and felt lucky we got that..

Gary, that is Hap Sharp in the Chaparral who raced with a white crash helmet whereas Jim Hall used a silver helmet

Thank you for the great selection of images you post.

They were cheap light weight cars that didn't have any resell value, Hot Rodders always looked for cars on the cheap side to do over. Like 'Vega's in the late 70s, My brother and I have 5 Vegas and 6 Henry-Js in our back yard, we got them cheap, fixed up a few, had fun without breaking the piggy bank open.

Sears also sold one model of a Cushman scooter, under the Allstate name, as well. I have one.

  20. This abominable contraption was built and courageously driven by Conrad Kalitta, from New Baltimore, MI.

  21. Don Garlits drove first Winter Nationals, in 1960, setting Top Speed at 165 mph in brother Ed Garlits’ car. Tampa’s Art Malone took over when Garlits was again injured. Malone and Garlits towed the “Don’s Speed Shop Special” from Tampa to California with this crusty, rusty ’53 Cadillac.
