What kind of sealant would hold up to today's ethanol gas in the road race tank? Holley came out with a fuel pickup sock that is suppose to cure all fuel starvation and slosh problems. The video is very impressive.

  2. I don't know but it was expensive and the guy was bitching, $90.00 for a 3 ounce tube.
I'm going to go see if I can find the video
    Thanks

    31Vicky,
Flipper got it right with the horizontal baffle suggestion. That is the standard set up in current top fuel and funny cars and they will accelerate harder than anything that you can do. The normal deal there is to put the baffle high enough that there is enough fuel under it to make the full run (around 7 gallons) but in your case you simply need enough volume that the pump will not starve while the car is accelerating. I usually coin/flare the holes in the baffles to give the fuel an easy path to the pump area. That also has the side benefit of making it a little more difficult for the fuel to get out of the "well". ie point the flare towards the pick up.

    Rooman,
Do fuel cars use multiple baffle plates? Or just one?

Funny cars use a single horizontal baffle because the tank is relatively short. I put as many as three vertical ones below the horizontal one in my dragster tanks depending on the length.

My first thought was hinged baffles or flaps so fuel can only run toward the pickup. The doors only needs to be about 4 inches by 6 inches. Build a box around the pickup in the center of the tank with a flap door on each side and one in the back. In circle track racing we put the pickup in the corner with flap doors.
