i,m glad to see more y-blocks being used they look and sound so much cooler then a 302 0r even a hemi in a street car
I was planning on putting a 312 into my 39 until I sold it to a fellow HAMB'er for his project. I was planning on using the Hurst front mount, truck timing cover (you need it to use the Hurst mount as mentioned above), a truck oil pan (it's a rear sump like a T-bird pan but cheaper) and an Offenhauser ****** adapter to bolt up the 40 Ford ****** I was using. I've got all the pieces mentioned above as the HAMB'er didn't need them. PM me if you're interested. I've also got a vintage unused aluminum flywheel with br*** insert for a Y-block I could let go. Below is the engine transplant guide from the 1958 Hot Rod Annual. Also attached is a copy of the instructions for the Hurst motor mount. Hope these help.
I'm putting a Y in my 37 Ford Pickup. punched out 292 with 3 dueces. I should have the engine back from the machine shop in the next ten days. I am using the front p***enger car mount and the bellhousing flanges for mounts.
36 with a 292. Tight but doable. Definatly going to have to cut the firewall. The clearance needed is 29 inches wide + or -. I'm not sure how deep the cut will be, probably 4 inches maybe 5. Anybody done this swap?
There's a great looking black 36 3 window in the HAMB for sale section offered by Stokers, that was built in 1956 with a new bird engine going thru a 39 box. With pictures.
I saw that and contacted him. He said it fit just fine. just notched the oil pan for the crossmember. Thanks Terry
