I'm thinking about bringing back a local car club that has been long forgotten?? Basically I stumbled on a club plaque that belonged to the club and I want to restart it. Has anyone done this before?

We did the same thing in 1985 to a local car club that had run from 1957-62 and asked permission from 6 of the original members to use their club name and lucked out when 2 of the charter members rejoined our club........ ODD ENDS 2016 009.JPG

Just make sure that the club didn't Trademark or Copyright their name. I highly doubt it, but you could run into legal issues. Can you track down any surviving members?

Some guys here did it a few years ago that were in the original club, got it up and running then new members didn't like how they ran it, kicked them out. They had made it legit with non profit organization papers with bylaws so they couldn't do anything about it. Lots of hard feelings left over with that one.
The original guys then revived another old club name, this time they hold a copyright on the club name and logo.
I'm on the roaster of 5 clubs here in town, one I joined years ago, 4 of them just put me there, don't know why, maybe they think I'll give them a club discount or something here at the shop. I don't get involved really with any of them, FWIW I'll just enjoy my cars and hang out with whoever, leave club politics to someone else.

Just put an ad in the cl***ifieds of a local newspaper and see if anyone remembers them. Be sure to put the ad on cars for sale. Chances are at least one of the guys is still a car guy and reads the for sale ads every day. The newspaper will argue the placement of the ad, They will want to put it in personals or wanted but make sure you put it there.
