I'm putting a 352 + 4-speed into my 55 merc., anyone know what clutch and brake pedals will work, other than 55 mercury ??

  2. '55 through '58 Ford.

  3. '52-'56 Ford and Merc pedal assemblies are the same.

55 more horsepressure than my 292, I hate my current trans, and, the 352 is FREE ! Out of a 66 Galaxy.

  6. Plenty of 352s got swapped into '55-56 Fords back in the day, and it was a significant upgrade over the Y-block with a very small weight penalty (use an aluminum intake and the penalty is gone) . Yeah, Ford tuned most of 'em for dead-nuts reliable low speed use as stock, but they'd respond to the usual speed tricks just like any other motor. A little-known fact is the 352 was the very first designed-from-the-block-up Detroit high performance production V8 (the 360 HP 352 of 1960) that reignited the 'horsepower wars' among the big three following the AMA 'racing ban' of late '57. Prior to that, all 'performance' engines were based on standard production offerings with bolt-on parts.

I had a 352-powered '58 Ford wagon 'back in the day' built on a low budget, and other than it was a slug out of the hole (heavy car...), I had no problem running with 350 Camaros and the like...

Supposedly the engine is rated at 250 hp., I'm tearing it down to freshen it up so naturally a hot cam will sneak its way in as well as an Edelbrock manifold, if I can squeeze 300 hp. Out of it that'll get me about 12 lbs. per horsepower overall, not a street killer but still a whole lot of fun.

  8. Yep, bump the compression up a bit (9.5), a healthy cam, about 3.5 rear gears, and you'll have a very snappy car. 300 HP should be no problem....

Hey, ain't there any way to post pix on this forum ? I'm also trying to set up an album but not having any luck.

  10. Sure... Right next to the 'post reply' icon it says 'upload a file'. Click on that, then select your pic. Won't work for links, you need the pic on your computer.

The hill is only 1 block, flat top & bottom. My garage is on street level at the bottom with the house above but my front door is right there in front of the coupe, it's a real pisscutter putting coal in the house.

Good thing your garage is at a 'level'... A REAL 'pisscutter' would be swinging that 352 in that there slanted tarmac!
You won't need a whole stick pedal bracket, either...just the pedal, (can't remember if the sticks and autos both use the long pin? Anyway, both brackets are the same)

Been looking around, most of that old stuff disappeared when the mobile car crushers came around 25 years ago. Anything that's still around isn't for parts. I'm gonna grab a set from an old Jeep Wrangler, they're fairly long and straight . I can copy the Mercury brake pedal and then the clutch should pretty much be a mirror image of it.

I like your Merc. Be careful with the rear end with an FE in it!
