I need a little help,I want to pull the 230cid flathead out of my plymouth savoy, and drop in a new 318 based 408 from sumitt racing, but I don't know if I will have any fitment issues, can I use a 727 trans and what recommendations do you have for me?
Thanks for the input I don't have alot of extra cash floating around so if I spend 5k on a new engine set up and another 1k on trans and drive shaft set up,I guess I have no other choice but to MAKE IT FIT....

Keep the Flathead. There are threads on this topic to have a hot Mopar flathead. Why do most people think that a V-8 is the best.
If your 6 is front or rear sump, no problem. If center you may have a problem. (havn't had a flatty to know where the sump is on them)
I fit a mopar big block into my 50 dodge, so a small block in a 56 is an easy day Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Lots of help here eh? We did a modern V8 in a 57 Dodge that was an original V8 car. We also updated wiring and mechanical items on a 54 Chrysler to modern stuff. I know a 54, a 56, and a 57 are different critters, and the flathead 6 and the V8 cars are different as well. From my experience, installing the modern V8 and trans into the 56 probably won't be a big deal, the issue is going to be connecting the modern stuff to the rest of the car. Power steering may be an issue (we had to reduce the pressure on the modern pump to work with the original power steering box and make custom hoses). I believe I would also plan on updating the rear axle to something modern. Update the brakes to disc brakes, sure the drum brakes worked great in 56, but are not up to modern times, update the master cylinder (adapting it to an original booster or original pedal linkage will probably be required as well. Wiring will be an issue as well. You can install a modern aftermarket wiring harness (don't buy the cheapest thing you can find), but if you reuse the switches and original tail lights, gas gauge, and turn signals, expect to be adapting the old stuff to the modern wiring. Give thought as to things like shift linkage as well. Most modern accessories are not compatible with the old accessory switches, so some creative engineering, or updating the old stuff with new stuff will be required. Being on good terms with a good parts guy at a parts store is a wonderful thing, Expect to need to do some scrounging. If you need specific help, give me a shout, and I'll see if I might be able to remember some of the stuff we had to do. But you will have to be specific to one or two items at a time. Gene
