Hot Rods A new project - 1941 Ford Shop Truck

This looks exactly like my 41's deep crossmember for the longer length of the 6 cyl introduced that year. I haven't measured yet, but I think that the 39-40 car crossmember will additionally lower the front end. I'll do that tomorrow, if you would like to know. Lower is better, right?

 

Heck yeah, I'd like to know.

I thought that it looked odd.

That crossmember looks like it woul make putting a 302 in there alot simpler

I'll be interested how the NV 3500 fits. Those are common transmissions but ya don't see them used in hot rods very often, I guess because the case is pretty big.

Whatever you do will be right. When you cover events you always have an eye for thye good stuff.

Brakes upgrade, but I may use the springs for the rear axle.

 

I have a crossmember from a 37 car,I believe they are the same

 

Just be sure to keep the 40-41 radiator mounting tabs.

Yes do. Someone took them off of my 40 Ford panel truck and I have been trying to find a pair for a long time.

 

i love thes trucks, need one to park next to my 40 car project! carry on!

 

I measured both. There is a 1" difference.

You're going to find that the '55 front springs will be too short for the rear. I think the rear springs that you want to use for the rear will have a 47" or 48" center to center distance between the spring eyes. I can't remember what the the center to center distance is on the front springs, but it is quite a bit shorter.

By the way, the truck looks awesome. You have an excellent start to a nice truck there. It is always nice when you can start out with good clean sheet metal.

Rich, I used a NV3500 from a 2wd V8 truck in the 34 sedan a few years back, the low 1st gear worked great with the tall 7.00's I had on it.
that truck of yours will be killer no doubt...did you find the copperhead by your house?

The first new part you install on your truck, is a hitch....

 

I'm using a WEEDETR rear suspension kit, which integrates the trailer hitch
with the rear spring hangers...

 

This kit also mounts the front spring hangers inboard of the frame.

There shouldn't be a need for lowering blocks...

 

Next up..

Remove the 41 front crossmember...

And install nice 40 crossmember...

 

I suspect you will need a different gas tank to clear the rear suspension back hangers being inside the outside rails but it could just be an optical thing.
