Looking to build a 60s Ford Econoline PU gasser. The problem is I think I have found two good candidates. One is a disassembled (they say they have all the parts in various bins) semi running with all the bodywork done, and in primer. The other is a completely done truck, running, painted, and the interior is complete. Besides throwing a straight axle under it, I am planning on chopping the top about 2 inches, and putting in a big block. So I w ill be doing some major changes to this truck. The difference between the two is about $6000.00. I have always been told you should buy the best car your budget will allow. The question for y'all is should I spend the extra cash, even though I will be destroying a fairly nice truck, or save some money, hope everything is there, and work on the primered truck? Thanks, Mike
Why just hope? Spend some time doing an inventory before handing over the cash, and adjust the price according to what's missing if anything. Some parts for these are near-unobtainium (cab glass for one), so look carefully. But saving $6K if for all intents both trucks are 'equal' in terms of your project sure seems like the way to go...
as soon as you buy you can do hat you want with it...... 1. it is disassembled already (cheap) 2. you will have to disassemble it + $6,000 no brainer....
Should already have a straight axle under it. Supervans came with 240 ci motors and an 8" (at least my '67 did). This could make a fun machine, I wouldn't mind an Econoline pickup myself. Where's the pitchers? I want pitchers!
Considering the mods you are planning, go with the disassembled truck. If you were doing a resto, then the complete truck gets the nod. Sent from my SM-T377V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks guys, I will go for the cheaper one, after I buy it, and start working on it, I will post pics.. Thanks again
I would like to build one with the Supervan drivetrain, with a sbf replacing the 240. Maybe even use 300 instead. I fear a big block would put some severe stress on the unibody construction, but I do recall a 390 installed in one back in the '70's. Correction; that 390 was in a van.
