CE often has show specials where they pay for the shipping. This has helped me quite a bit when ordering rearend kit and front suspension components.

Never had a bad personal experience with CE. As others have said, give them a call, they are reasonable people.

If that is the actual cost for the shipping, well so be it. What bothers me is when a company quotes you a "flat rate" for shipping for say $15 and when you receive the package and the actual shipping cost is $9.00. Do that for every package and it adds up.

I have no experience with CE's shipping but have an observation recently. I had to ship a package (<4#) from WA to NY. My local UPS store wanted $35. My local mail boxes place wanted $28 for the same box. USPS medium flat rate box was $13.45. So it might not be the company's fault, shipping has gone nuts.

As your quotation says on your signature page. Cheap, Fast, Reliable-- Pick two. And then there`s mine. You don`t understand. It`s not all about the money. There are more threads that are more important to read like BOB K`s on his new project. A fellow Wisconsin like yourself.

  6. I'll agree that CE's shipping isn't the cheapest around, but they're not as bad as some others out there. And not every vendor gets the same deal on shipping costs; somebody like Speedway or Summit will get one price, a smaller shipper won't get as good a deal. I used to 'hobby' buy/sell a lot on eBay, but the shipping costs thicket got so bad I mostly gave up. Flat-rate USPS boxes are a good deal if they work, but that means you need two shipping programs if most of your stuff won't fit in one and the PO won't screw around with pick-up if you don't have enough volume.

  7. Again, really? Another person who thinks about adding things up ? free boxes packed with free labor i guess they have leprechauns packing them and unicorns **** rainbow boxes. Elfs and fairies run the shipping and receiving departments and Santa clause is the purchasing agent.

UPS shipping charges are based on WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS.
    LxWxH divided by 166
In January the formula will go to LxWxH divided by 139.
For example a 10x10x10 box today is a 7# box EMPTY
January that box will be 8# EMPTY.
As for USPS I tracked a package delivered to me. Tracking said it was in my mailbox on 12/24.
It arrived 12/27 in my mail box. Why? Delivery carrier scans package in morning as delivered even
if he does not put it in the mail box.
I am in the shipping business and see this frequently.
UPS/FEDEX are more reliable for delivery and tracing.

I sold a fender to a guy and he paid me a hundred bucks for it. I go to ship it from Fl. To Delaware and FEDEX tells me its $ 480.00 to ship it and no insurance available. UPS was about the same. I take it to Greyhound and put it in their shipping system. The freight is $92.00 and they give me $300 worth of insurance for free.
Got their in 5 days and no damage. Something to think about when shipping bigger items.

Woah, Vicky, don't get your ******* in a knot. That's not what I'm talking about. All business' include boxing and other overhead charges and are called handling charges and are figured into their bottom line. What I am referring to are, after those charges are factored in and then add an inflated flat rate for shipping. The vast majority of companies are honest, pumping up shipping is not.

Get your secret decoder ring and cypher it all the way thru.

Try this- you walk in the door of said establishment & Ask for acme widget. You pay the set price of $5.00 They hand it to you and off you go
    .
    Easy peazy!

Call on the phone to same said company.
Ask for the same $5.00 acme widget.
Someone takes the shipping info, someone takes credit info, prints a label someone packs a box, someone ordered the box labels and tape then stocked them, someone gets your order out the door.
How do those someone's get paid?

Under your "logic" every part sold should be priced higher to cover the extra costs of those tasks someone must do. You wouldn't do that job for free.

Whether you realize that or not that is what you've said.

    You see this constantly-
Company A sells acme widgets at 5.00 plus shipping. Company B sells same acme widget for $15.00 free shipping

Every company that I have ordered from charges a S&H fee. I would like to know what those guys are making who pack and ship to charge $19.99 to ship a $35 part to me from Speedway, etc.

Most of the places charge S&H by the amount that you spend even if it is one small piece. Spend $10-$40 and pay $19.99 min. for S&H. Spend $41 to $65 and pay $30 S&H. Spend $66 to $100 and pay $40 for S&H. Now, this is a real rip off.

Exaggeration of course but you get my drift.

Also, some places like Speedway, have free shipping on orders over a certain amount of money spent. I think Speedway is $99.

I rarely ever complain about shipping cost, I order what I need, part comes to my door. Saves me the trouble of going to this store and that store, and or having some jerk off try to sell me a over priced chunk of ****, or the wrong part.:)

My point was meant to be made on the quality of the part: most times it eclipses the price of shipping.
But I do plenty of 'homework' on the shipping charges, as I do on things shipped from here that charge CA. tax, as I live here.
(actually in a nice 'red' area where folks are tolerant, even if you say something that's true!)

When I order parts I never buy one part,I try to buy a few to get my money's worth out of the shipping. Shipping cost has gotten a little too crazy lately and its the first thing I look at when I am on that auction site.

Vicky, the point I am making is this. The vast majority of companies I deal with charge shipping actual cost by ether my Zip Code or a percent of the bottom line. The company I have an issue with is a company that charges a handling charge plus a flat rate shipping charge that is 100%, to 120% higher than the actual cost of the shipping. That my friend is unscrupulous. That is making money on shipping and in my business I would never do that. I would rather loose a couple of bucks in shipping , because it's made up in the handling charges than loose a customer. I don't deal with that company anymore.

  21. The point you chose to make earlier was that $4.00 over the shipping charges (handling) would add up .
    Insinuating unfair enrichment .

Now the point is taking the shipping charge and adding 10 to 12 for every $10
So $10 fee would be $22 and a $50 shipping would be $ 110. And your buddy does it.

And on top of it all you really need to learn the difference between loose and lose :p :D
Look it up you might be surprised and you will look a lot smarter and less like a loser :D:D:)

Had a girlfriend I didn't wanna loose. But she was lose, just a party animal...
When it got down to 'numbers', she was 100-120% loser than other chickens in the roost...(roast?)
I dunno, loost track somewheres... ('anyways': That's another one!)

My wife brought this bottle of 'Canadian Mist' home, one of the trucking companies they use for 'backhaul' gave it as a gift... 'Youse' guys would have to catch me after extensive testing! ...Just to make sure it's O.K. for young spouse... Wheee!

I called ch***is engineering inc to get shipping on a rearend mounting kit 130 dollars for shipping. I said okay I need to save some more money. He gave me the name and number of his dealers with free shipping. And they are selling the kit for the same price. I couldn't believe it.

They did the same thing for me leadfoot. I called them direct, they quoted me the price, I asked about freight. The guy sent me to a dealer in PA that had free freight for anything over $100.00. AND he told me if I was going to order the kit with gas shocks, then order the kit with regular shocks, because they were out of regular shocks and were shipping gas shocks. Saved me $140 on shipping, and $20 on the shocks.

It arrived a day sooner than expected. Cl*** act manufacturer and cl*** act dealer that worked well with/for me!

ok here is my thread on the speedway motor mounts.
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/what-caused-this.974892/
the universal ones they replaced them with have been fine. i know have used a pair on the truck in the thread and am using them in my hot rod for both the engine and bellhousing mounts. they are good.
i think the ones they sell in certain "kits" are the junky ones.

Was waiting for a UPS shipment recently. Found it was shipped to the local Post Office for delivery. Tracking number changes but they provide the new one on their site. Apparently called UPS Basic. Takes a little longer but betting its cheaper for the vendors.
