Does anyone know if this is made by any companies, etc? I think it would be pretty cool and something DIFFERENT to have a shift knob that looks like an old microphone. I can't think of the name of the microphone but you know the style I am talking about. Guess the old 50's square metal looking one. Any idea? If not then I may make one for the hell of it and see how it turns out.
    Thanks!

Hell, I figured millions of people beat me to it. I still do not see ANY AT ALL in NC and would sure be the first and still I don't see any on the internet. I haven't seen a single one before and I was looking online at some pics of 50's Chevy's to get some idea's for my 54 HT and saw a shift knob with lines all in it and it almost looked like a tall mic but then I thought that it would be *****in to have a square old style one. Also since I am heavily into music (drums, guitar, run sound boards and recording studio) I thought it fit me well.

The microphone in question is a SHURE model no.55...you might be able to find a decent one on Ebay. The base is already threaded, it just might take a little 'adjustment'. hehehe
Just search for SHURE 55 on Ebay, and see what you can s****e up.

Ya James Hetfield did it in his green Olds coupe called the grinch. It was in the Rodders Journal not to long ago. He also used a drum pedal for his gas pedal. But who cares it's all been done before any ways. Scott

  12. It may have been done before but it still looks a hell of a lot better than a beer tapper or a monster head. I say do it.

When you do your ebay search for Shure 55 mics you will find that there are a ****load of them knocking around, some of the old ones bring stupid bucks, and you will run the risk of getting one thats beat up. You can generally find new ones for around $170. Don't get ****ed into paying three hundred dollars for a used one. I too plan to use a microphone as a shift knob. In the 60's I was a DJ on a popular North Carolina station and my car will have a few themematic touches to tie into this period, the shift knob being but one.

  24. Find an old audio store and scrounge around for any old Ribbon Mics that have been killed. Telefunken made some real cool looking stuff.

wonder if that knuckle shifter is legal in Cali. I'd hate to get charged with a felony for my shifter in my car. (if I had a car that is...:(...stupid school)

it's been done plenty of times. hell it's the first thing i ran for a knob in my buick when i got it 8-9 years ago. oh and i am in nc so it's been done here and loooooooonnnnnnnnggggg ago. the shure will cost to much money unless you plan to wire it. even dead cases go pretty high. there are plenty of other cool old mics. hell i've got an old ElectroVoice i'd sell you pretty cheap. i'll dig it out and shoot a pic. it must be a thing with singers from various bands doing it. you know how we like to show off a bit. but yes it is still a cool idea and around here you don't see it(i changed mine about 6 years ago). i say do it. a quick search under vintage microphone on ebay will so you that there are several that i think are as cool or cooler than the shure even though that is just about my favorite mic. a smaller old "bullet mic" would be cool to. anyhow if you're interested in the EV let me know and i'll dig you up a pic. i could probably let it go for about $30 or so. i just need to check and make sure it's still around...ken....
