ive been working on this deal for the last month or so,,,finally happened today,,,,,,this is a 56 crown vic that was customized into a "ranchero".....it is super SOLID,,,has rebuilt engine (390), transmission, new duals with glasspacks,,,new bias ply www's, new bumpers,,,,,,louvered hood,,rolled and pleated interior,,,tonneau cover.....lee lenses,,,,,,i'm happy,,,,,,,this will be my new daily driver,,,,,,,,,,,,,the only thing i will change is the tailgate (its hideous),,i plan to use a trunk lid section, or maybe a wagon tailgate section to replace it.........this was last on the road back in 1973,,,,been stored inside since then,,,,,,it was originally built sometime after 1959, because the back window is from a 59 ford,,,,,,,,anybody recognize this car??? i have about 400 of the "little books" i will be scanning looking for pics of it,,,in the meantime, if anyone knows anything about this car, please post it here......

Reminds me a little bit of an old flower car with the high sides and all. Still a really cool ride reguardless.

Nice find.... I think I'd get rid of the aluminum treadplate in the bed before I worried about the tailgate.. One mans opinion...

That's not the same car as the one you've seen at Amherst. That one was built just a few years ago by Ritchie Cockerline of Hudson, NH. Here's a pic of it, with the tailgate done as mentioned in the original post. It was built from a Crown Vic.

Very cool ride. I like the rear window on yours better then the one from Amherst. The Amherst one has a nice tail gate though.

I,too have seen it before but I can't remember where or when. Tailgate's not THAT bad. You're a lucky guy. That's a nice old survivor.

    Jim,
I drove by it this morning. It's in much better shape than I expected and they did a good job on the back window. Hope someone here has some history about it.

ok nevermind...I thought it was cause I've seen that NH car for sale up @ Amhearst before.

Looks pretty close - without doing a side - by - side comparison. even purple colored.

I just figured how many could be like that and be on the east coast...apparently more than 1 :)

    Excellent score.

  22. Nice score. Good looking conversion. There was a black one in the Vancouver, BC area in the late 70's early 80's made from a 56 Meteor Crown Vicky. Was a dynamite conversion also. Looked factory and used the crown trim on top of the rear fenders to tie in with the roof crown trim. It disappeared years ago so should resurface some day as well. Pat.

I agree that the tailgate doesn't look bad at all. I think the tailgate on the purple car doesn't look very Ranchero-y, looks like a cut down sedan. A wagon tailgate would probably look nice. Diamondplate is ugly, glad to see it go.

Wouldn't this thing be cool with a glass roof insert in it? The '55 insert would drop right in there.

Ok, you're right on the 'gate. Glad to see the diamond plate go to. That just doesn't fit the rest of the car at all. A wagon gate would be nice like you said.

Ok maybe yer right about the tailgate? Its not bad though! I actually have never seen a conversion from a car to truck like what you got its Bitchen!!! Usaully they are Cadminos and pretty poorly done. Yours looks very proportionate and clean-very unusual for such a conversion. How about some pics of the back glass inside and out? Great score!!! ltr Dae
