Hi guys, So recently bought this car from the Santa Rosa Ca. Which came from the Pacific Northwest Canada boader(Washington state ). The car has a all blue tweed interior and and some funky seats maybe from a Ford van from 70-80s. Either way my question is in the su****ion. It's like nothing I've ever seen before and I bet one of you HAMBERS out there have. Here are some shots of it and let me know if you be seen it or if you recognize this car. Thanks guys! PS...Sorry Hotrod primer I didn't realize it had to go to one person. I figure you one of the most knowledgeable guys on here so sorry for hitting with this. I'll try and post in general. Chris
Never saw the car before. It has unconventional front suspension that isn't as good looking as the typical early Ford deal we are accustomed to but it does look safe and road worthy. Those front spindles look like Chevrolet, '49-'54.
Other than it being non-traditional, I know very little about it. The car looks great overall, except that the front wheels look to be to far back on the car. That'll give you an excuse to rip it out and replace it with more of a stock type front suspension.
Yeah despite it looking like a turd, it handles pretty damn good. Really the only reason I would get rid of it is because is may go fenderless from time to time.
The picture is a little deceiving because when I measured them they were spot on. however the one thing that did bug me was how far apart the front wheels are. That's why I think I'm going with a 46" hairpin when I do. Thanks!
Those are coil springs and where were you from before you started pretending to be from Santa Barbara.
Well bud I was born and raised right here on the Central Coast of Cali. I lived in the actual city of Santa Barbara until about grade school then moved the to lovely city of Lompoc Ca. for the rest. Not sure if you think I threw that up there to be cool or to pretend to live in some ritz town but that ain't me my friend. I live in good ole farm land wine country Lompoc. Oh and thanks for the help on letting me know they are coil springs, never could have guessed that one. I should have been more clear when asking if anyone has seen this set up used on a 32 like this. FRANK'N BEANS!!!
Oh last thing Frank'nBeans, Lompoc Ca is in Santa Barbara Ca County. Not sure if you knew that from ole Raytown MO. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
@32vicky with a hemi..... I fully agree. I figure I rip it all out and start over. Better look and accomplish what I'm looking for. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Its hard to see from the pics but are there two sides to that axle like a twin I-Beam on a Ford truck? if that's the case I remember FAT MAN making a front end like that for a while, don't think it ever caught on.
Interesting setup! Must be very stable having the upper bars bolt to the tube axle so high up on the drop. Not really impressed with the coil spring mountings as it seems (it's hard to really judge with the supplied pics...) like they would put a lot of leverage and stress into the frame...but I'd give it a shot and expect excellent results using a transverse spring.
Funky is right. Looks like that upper coil mount will try to twist the rail. Is the frame boxed? That looks like a NICE tudor (better than mine!). But, IF it was mine, I would perform a coilorectomy, and put in an A crossmember and transverse spring with bones. TTT: Tried, True, and Traditional.
If it still has the stock type front crossmember a forged dropped axle would be a straight forward upgrade. Nice looking 2door. Have fun.
Yeah I have pretty much made up my mind and decided to go with the drop axel and hairpin set up. A lot of stuff can be used and others with have to be repaired but shouldn't be too much. Thanks everyone for the input. I just wanted to get so other ideas out there since the couple shops I took it to had no idea what it was. I know it's hard from the pics but it's the best I could get from the garage door. Thanks again guys! Chris (The Pretender of that Santa Barbara Ca Livin! I like the car and it will make a great hot rod with the installation of an original 32 heavy under it
