Hey guys I am wondering if any of you have made your own "spidercaps" for early ford wheels?? I have bullet shaped lug nuts, and want to put a bullet center cap in and so far have not found anyone that supplies a push thru bullet center cap for OEM wheels that fits the Ford wheels with the 5 1/2 Bolt circle. That is the wheels that have the larger hub center hole, 3 3/8ths i believe.

Have any of you created something like this? I saw a 32 sedan that was copper in color on the cover of rodders Digest that had these bullet centers but i dont know if he had early ford wheels tho.

    Any help ?
    Thanks!!

i made a set.....get some center caps that fit through the center of a ford truck wheel..the kind that are cylinder shaped,,,,buy some of the tall chrome bullets,,,,,frank and carol from "chrome it" sell them (dont have their address here, but im sure someone does,,they are out of port trevorton, pa),,,,slip the bullets ovet the cylinder shaped center caps,,,grind away some of the chrome where the two meet so you can weld several spots around the perimiter,,,,spot weld them at about 3/4 inch intervals all the way around,,,,worked great for me,,,wish i had pics of mine,,but i didnt take any,,,,i did sell them to a hamber,,maybe they will see this and post some pictures..

You want the 3 3/8" hole? A guy on eBay sells the bullet caps for 3 3/8" diameter wheels. I'm looking for the smaller diameter push through bullets, for 2 7/8" (approx) center hole. If you know where I can get some of those, let me know, please.

Read through the description, he's selling them for some ugly aluminum wheels but they should work for your steel wheels too.

Now, where were you finding the smaller diameter bullet caps? You mentioned that you couldn't find any for your wheel diameter. Does that mean you were finding them for other diameters? I need some for wheels with just under 3" diameter and I can't find anyone who sells them.

Radirwheelsguy, are those the only sizes you have? 2 15/16 is still just a hair too big for my wheels. Or is it possible to modify them?

I'd love to have some aluminum bullets on my car, they'll hold up a lot better up here in Wisconsin, plus then I can tell everyone that I have Radir's on my '55! I have to use the wheels that I have now, I made custom mini-trim rings to fit these wheels and they fit my car correctly, so swapping out wheels is not an option for me.

Any suggestions? Can wheels be modified to accept the slightly larger bullets, or is that dangerous?

they push though from the back. I think they make three different lengths these are the long ones so i could clear the early ford rear end.

alot of guys have just had there wheel centers honed out to accept either size caps, its pretty expensive to have the dies made to make different sizes and there are so many millions of steelies out there with all kinds of center bores.

Is honing the center of a steel wheel safe? If it is, I'm pretty sure I could make the 2 15/16" diameter bullets work. I'll shoot you a PM

Did you buy them directly from Radir?? If those work on your 40 wheels they will work on mine as those wheels have teh same hub size as mine. Are they pricy??

Yes I bought them from radir about two years ago if you just hold them up to the wheel they look like they would be loose but when you tighten the wheel the bullet tightens up pretty nice. the flange on the back of them has bumps that smash down when you put the wheel on and then when you take the wheel off next time just bend them back out and put them back on, I have had mine off and on a number of times with no problems. I am going to order some more to replace the ones I bent up.

A co. called Star Wheel sells bullet lug nuts, bullet caps, bullet valve stem covers and several sizes of decorative bullets. They can be contacted at starwheel.com.
