I've searched and read a bunch of the existing discussion and I have two questions:

    1. Will the Mor-Mol-Asse brand mollasses sold at TSC work? I read the whole package and couldn't find any information about it being sulphated or un-sulphated.

    2. Does it matter if the vat is covered or not, I'd like to leave mine outside and covered to keep my dogs out of it, they get in everything. Didn't know if the lack of airflow would affect the process.

    Thanks.

I have done it on some parts for my 35, but I CANNOT answer either of your questions. Sorry.

I used the brand the local Farm Store (Atwoods) sells for Pancakes. I left mine uncovered and put it up opn a high shelf.

Ahh yes the old molasses thread…. This is what I did, this was some time ago, so went to HEB bought a whole bunch of molasses jars, mixed it with water, I can’t remember the ratio, it’ll come up for sure (8 to 1 maybe), put it in a large enough trash can to fit 2 rusty double hump heads and let it sit for a week. Took em out power washed em and they looked super clean. All the rust was gone. You do have to cover it up because not only will it harm you dogs but it will smell awful.

I think this thread may go on for a while …………

So in NY and other Northeastern states the DOT's have begun mixing molasses with road salt. The molasses supposed to extend the life of the salt application. So if I read this right, the salt will still destroy my car, but the molasses will reverse it?????????????

sorry to hijack, but is there a point where, if left too long, the metal can actually be damaged by the rusty molasses mixture?

i don't thihnk so. i put some in a while back and forgot it 'til a year later. came out just fine. (old folks don't remember things very well...) some of the parts were heavy stuff (f-1 pedals) and some were sheet metal (defroster pieces).
