I am going to be ordering some wheels and tires for the spacetruck in the near future. I would like to see some different tires on 15 inch wheels on fenderless cars for comparison.

I am most likely going to be buying Radirs which only come in 14 or 15 inch. I am thinking 4 inch wide wheels on the front and 7 inch wide on the back

I am thinking 5.60-15's on the front and L-78 15's on the back. I may go a size bigger on the front, but I don't know, that's why I need to see pics.

I was going to get the tires from Coker unless anyone knows of a better and/or cheaper source.

As you can see in the pic, I think I need a little more wheel/tire m*** on the front.(these are 15's with some low pro's on the front)

Here are my BFGoodrich tires, 560-15 front and 820-15 rear. They are mounted on 15x5 front and 15x6 rear. They were ordered from from Coker Tire, by Discount Tire, having Discount Tire get them saved on shipping. They were around $425.00 out the door. Hope this helps -Joe

Thanks! I was beginning to wonder if everyone was running wooden wheels on their cars or something!

I was wanting to see what 820's looked like too.

I plan on running www's on mine.

  4. God! I love the space truck. On something that 60's roddish why not go w/ cheater slicks out back? Radir or Coker both can hook you up.

If you are feeling really tough, give Marty a call at NW Customs http://www.northwestcustoms.net/ He just got Hurst to do up some of the real deal pie crust slicks. I think he has like 5 or 6 pair left and they are reasonably priced in comparison to Coker and Radir.

I originally was going to go the cheater slick route, but I drive my stuff, and in Illinois that means that sometimes we get wet!

Everyone I talked to says that even the cheater slicks are dangerous on wet pavement.

    Plowboy,

Universal Tire Company (out of Allentown, PA) sells 8.20 x 15 tires that are 31" tall.

Every time I see the Spacetruck, I think, "Damn. That thing needs bigger tires."

Likewise, think about 6.40 x 15 or 6.70 x 15 tires on the front. Firestone of course...

Have you thought about whitewall radials? They wouldn't be too out of place on your truck.. it's not like you're going for a 50's look and you need the bi-plies. 235/75R15 tires are a about 29.5" tall and not too wide. They're a really common 1/2-ton truck tire size.

    Space out.

PS - Why are your shackles mounted on the front of the leaf springs? Sometimes the 4x4 guys do that so thier pinions roll upwards when the springs compress, allowing them to cross over large rocks and small cars. That being said, I believe you'll get more predictable handling if the spring movement is towards the rear of the car while you're driving, as the axle wont be moving in the opposite direction of the vehicle's momentum.

Ed, The shackles are like that because they are stock and that is how they were.

It all depends on how the tires look. The 820 series looks a little too 50's to me. The L-78's are alittle more 60's, I think. I am just going to get bias plies to start with. If I chew them up in a year on the ****py roads I live on, I will get Radials on the 2nd go around.

hey plowboy, try www.etires.com i bought my tires through them, b.f goodrich radial t/a's 285/70/15's out back and 185/70/15's up front.....not what your looking for style-wise but there prices are great. the 285s were only $80 each and the 185s were $60 each plus the shipping was only .99 (cents) per tire and that was shipped from chicago to m***achusetts, less than 300 bucks for the whole deal. their worth a look anyway, good luck man, mike

The tires are 235-75-R15 Dimension radials with a 1 3/4 whitewall which were the widest I could find without going to Coker or the other really expensive places. I got them from Cross Midwest Tires. They also powder coated the corvette ralley's for me. The front wheels and spare are 15X7's and the rears are 15X8 reversed wheels they have Police caps I ordered the rears and caps from Wheel Vintiques. Not quite as wide as I would have liked but they were only like $50 a wheel and are radials.
Good luck shoppin man, love the spacetruck!!

    Thanks guys.

S****s are those 5.60's on the front of yours too? How about the back?

****o, I considered going with the cheap radial whitewalls, I still may if I eat these tires in a year the way I did on my A. The spacetruck will probably see less country road action though.

JapChris sent me this pic of some 6.40's on the front. they may work. I just don't want to get the tires on there and have that "uphill" look. I don't think I would get that with all of the rake built in to the design ot the truck though. Thanks Chris!

    AV8Paul,

Do you have any rear shots of your coupe? I would like to get an idea of how wide the tires are.

    Thanks,

    Ed,
Here is a rear shot of my roadster. As you can see the wide rims expand the sidewall and it looks a bit odd. I have since swapped out the 7 inch rims for some 5 inch. It looks better to me. This picture was taken in 1998 and there have been several changes since then. I'll try and post another shot with the 5 inch rims.

    Paul,

I would really appreciate it if you could post a pic with the 5" wide rims, as I have a set of four 15x5 rims which I'm thinking about mounting 8.20x15 and 5.60x15 'stones on. If you had any shots of the front tires I'd appreciate that too... I wish I'd checked your rod out a little better at York so I wouldn't be asking these questions now!

    Thanks,
    Ed

PS- Plowboy, sorry about kinda stealing your thread... I guess this will get you more pictures of 15" tires anyway!

PPS- Jdubbya, do you have any front or rear shots of your sedan? I'd like to see the width of the tires.

    Joe,

Thanks for the picture. 8.20x15's fit your 15x6 rims nicely.

I can't find a good picture of the 8.20 on the 5 inch wheel. Don't really have a good one of the front. If it wasn't minus 2 degrees right now I'd go shoot one. Here is the best I could do. It was taken at York two years ago.
