I would like to get in touch with "Bored & Stroked" about the flat cab 1932 Cabriolet. I am looking for dimensions of his windows. I am building a cabriolet and my doors are empty. I know the blank size but nothing for finished sizes. I saw his car at the Cleveland, Oh. Piston &Power show but never saw "Bored & Stroked" so that I could talk with him. I need some good cabriolet info. I do not want power windows...keeping it old skool!
There is a member in Texas that might see this. He just took the time to measure some other things on his car for another 32 cabriolet members car...a week or less ago. as far as window regulators, those would be hard to find. I made an imitation cabriolet from a roofless 5w. I made the window track guides, the window frames, and used hand crank regulators from a modern car. I can't help with the original size of side windows, mine are custom size.
My Cabriolet leaves a lot to be desired, but it did come with regulators, window tracks, and gl*** stops. The regulators are basically the same as tudor sedans except the arms are shorter. I have both and will take pics of them. The gl*** tracks are one of the cooler parts of the car. They are two piece and have springs to tension the gl*** channels. Ill take pics of those as well. There had been a set of original channels on ebay for awhile, a few weeks ago. Not cheap, about $700 if memory serves, but they are not easy to reproduce. They may still be there. Ill get pics out later today.
I'd like to see the pics, too. I saved some pics of a car for sale that had repro gl*** frames, and they sure looked very thick, as far as width of the frame material? I used 1/2" square tubing for gl*** frames, and another guy on here used pieces on 56-59 chevy truck door gl*** frames, welded together. I also saw some pics or video of Gene Winfield bending stainless frames with a torch, but that must take a lot of skill. .
Upper regulator is tudor sedan. Lower is cabriolet. They are actually the same, even the arms. The pics make the cabriolet look bigger, but they are not. They are the same. Same bolt patter as well. Im running the nicer sedan regulators. I have a pair. These are the window channels. Another fun fact. Cabriolet and tudor cowl front jambs are the same. They both have provisions for different hinge pockets. Only one is cut out in each.
Pretty bizarre guide tracks. I can see they used a strip of leather "shoe lace" on the inside and outside of the gl*** frames, but what was deep in the channel where that group of 4 rectangular slits are? My guides are made from 3/4 square tubing, with one side cut off. Then I lined them with thick black felt. .
Just want to thank you hammeredt and F&J for your inputs and pics of the window channels and regulators. You have given me a pretty good direction to go for fabricating my own. I just needed to see an example. Thanks again.
Here's a few pictures and dimensions of the window frames . I can send you a paper pattern if you like. This is a a repoduction set I have originals in the one cabriolet and has the same guides you have. I also have repo ones and work pretty good .
A few of the framework the frame is made up of .062 steel and width is .650 thickness . 510 and where gl*** fits in .330
I might have an original set that I can sell to you. Would you be interested or do you want to make your own? Let me know and I will look around. PM me your answer please.
The tracks are pretty involved and have spring loaded strips. I made a number of the small springs for a friend that was making new tracks. The original ones had small coil springs and they later went to a flat spring and Teflon strips. The window frames had a series of br*** / steel rollers with ball bearing on the window frame it self . The originals work great .
Do you still have the window gl*** frames. I would be interested in Buying them from you? fiteqprpr mike
Hey Gang . . . I'm alive and well . . . ping me if you need anything that I might be able to help with. Would have loved to meet you last year in Cleveland - was a really fun show and the gang that put it on - top ficking notch! B&S
