  2. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg A little new for a taildragger....but here's my '50. First as bought, then after some changes and roadtrip from Texas to Bonneville, then at my house in Bergen, Norway. Its sitting high in. The second pic as it has air shocks pumped up in the rear for three guys and packed trunk for the trip

  4. Tail dragger = nose up, tail down.
Not forward rake. Not sitting on belly on broken suspension. Some of the pictures are straying from the thread title.

Love it Epy, like the split bumper. The turn signals... yeah I think they are pretty neat.
Look forward to seeing the car progress.

It's just the last three 30's cars that I have had have been purple so I think its about time for a change.

Yeah I was thinking that..........but what?

And that's the trouble, someone once said to me, "the longer it stays in that colour the more you will like it", and I think he was right

  19. That makes sense. One of the reasons I liked the purple is it seems like green or maroon are the only two colours anyone seems to put on that era custom these days and the purple was different but I guess not so different for you.:D

I wonder what the Maroon would buff up like? Johnny

  21. Hi Epy. Great looking sled convertible you have there! I'm sure all of us wanting a post-war style custom and wanting to get a suitable colour for the era have struggled with the options. I agree with K13 in thinking some of the colours are getting pretty common, and I can see you not wanting to go down a purple road after having done that before, so I tried some paints to see what they might look like. Here's what I did:

p.s. I chose a deep brown/bronze for my own car that Geo. Barris might have mixed up back in the day and have recently seen a similar shade on the new Toyota (sorry!) s.u.v..

Green is seen often, but here's a jade shade:
    38ccvv_jadegreen.jpg

A blue shade similar to Ford's stock colour:
    38ccvv_darkblue.jpg

Then I thought - perhaps a purply maroon I call "blackberry":
    38ccvv_blackberry.jpg

And this one is right "off the cuff" (and perhaps not so traditional) which I thought of as a deep "ember" shade:
    38ccvv_redember.jpg

There they are. Pretty sure your convert will look great no matter what colour you choose!

Hi Epy. I reckon that blackberry looks nice, but I also love your car just the way it was at Whitby goth weekend last year.

Ran across this thread discussing the difference s between tail dragger and lead sled. Here is my candidate. Is it a taildragger? Has no bags just air shocks. Is it a lead sled? I did a majority of the bodywork in lead. Whatever it is this is the way I remember the cars from the day. I'm 75 now so I can remember the 50s and 60s. Had this Chevy since 66 and finally got it the way l wanted. Dave Jenkins 57 was an influence. Sorry to hear of his passing. 1483998377730.jpg

  30. Hey Von Brush, love the ragtop--I'm sure Dave would be flattered as you did a great job on your car. It would have been really cool to do a feature of your car with Dave's together for a magazine like Kustoms Illustrated. Two of the nicest '57 Chevy customs in the country.
I just read about your car in the Kustom Kemps of America 1980-1992 book. Neat that it was featured in there. E
