I bought a 29 ford sport coupe and the previous owner had already bunch of new sheet metal for it. The only part that looks a little wierd is the rear crossmember, it looks longer than others I've seen I think and doesn't line up with the bottom of the car like I think it's supposed to. My question is is it the right part for this car? If not what's it for? Thanks a lot
I'm not sure that is a "store bought" part. Maybe it's home.made? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes that looks taller than stock. Perhaps custom made for a vision the previous owner had in mind...can you ask him. Doesn't really look like vintage metal... Sometimes people make aprons or panels as the stock fenders carry on quite a bit south of the trunk area.
Does look home made, if it were store bought. At least at the top It would curve in to match the body if it was store bought. Looks okay to me, needs some tweeking, but it's a good start. Sent from my SM-G360T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Well I guess it could be homemade, I never really thought of that. I included some pictures of what it looks like off the car and it measures 4.5" top to bottom. My concern is im not running fenders on the car and it looks a little goofy hanging lower than the rest of the body. Thanks a lot
A stock one is about as tall as the inner tabs on that one. Either get an original or buy a new repro from Brookville. BTW a roadster and coupe are the same but a sedan is different.
Sorry for the name confusion, was just going by how it's listed on the Howell's, Mac's and Brookville sites.
Thanks for all the help. I'll just have to get a stock one and go from there. I knew this one couldnt be right, and who knows what it's for.
Both Brookville and Howells list them as crossmembers 1928 to 1931 Coupe & Roadster Rear Crossmember https://brookvilleroadster.com/stor...ls/28-31-roadster-and-coupe-rear-crossmember/
yep crossmember because it goes across as opposed the the X or K member that looks like an ...........x or k
List it as a 1929 streetrod sub rail rear crossmember with pics on Craiglist and use the dough towards stuff you need.
Its all just part of the learning process. thought I knew a lot about cars tell I bought my model a. That was an education in its self. Good luck with your project.
