18 foot long van to blast the inside, minus all the clean up, here it would cost me about $800 to get the inside blasted. They sand the whole bed of a pick up truck with that wheel in about 20 mins. Wheel cost $40, I think I can wheel it with my buffer in about 2-3 hours, we will see, 2 hours into it, if you hear cussing from West Georgia.... you will know I threw the tool across the yard!!
I will trade you a 46% complete '36 Ford Roadster wanna be for the Delivery Van, she could go topless in the summer!
holy hangnail, that is a sweet rig, love the black shared machine, hey bro-"a happy wife is a happy life". Rock n roll on this super project, will be watchin progress, thanx for sharing.
Brigrat, how does something become 46% complete? I had a 23 year marriage that was 90% good. But that 10% margin was very costly. Sent from my SM-T377V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
As a youngster I used to watch all the TV crime dramas. After Perry Mason, Raymond Burr had a show called "Ironsides". His characters was a cop in a wheelchair. I think he used a rig like yours, modified by a "shady" customizer character with a fold down ramp for access. And fuel injection. Could be wrong, it's a distant memory. Hey hey just buy the brush from my wife lol, she will sell you mine before I get to use it. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Looks like a great tool, but only 2500 RPM max. I don't know of any electric grinders that turn that slow, maybe a polisher. May have to use an air grinder/polisher.
It is for use on a polisher. If you ran that on a grinder, you would be picking those spines out of your skin for a while.
Yea put on a variable speed buffer. You would be surprised how much material you can take off using a 8 inch pad with 180 grit at 1200 rpm. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Abrasive stripping is awful but it works. Facemask. Facemask. Facemask. Did I say facemask? You said inside so add fans to the mix to keep it flying away from you. Your avatar could make a better panel avertising plan than my original idea. Get a paint guy to do it though, NO WRAPS, please. I'm sure it could be airbrushed fairly well. I'll see your concerns about the colors and raise you some stripping misery...(!) The classes idea has merit. Hands-on training is hard to beat. You go Guru, nice truck.
That will make a great delivery van and some very memorable impressions on customers. I think also some memorable bodyworking time.
The cream color with the purple fenders wins the contest. Having the fenders a lighter color than the body makes it look top heavy to me. Neat project.
Man, I would LOVE to find something like that to build a shop truck out of! Where in N.C. did you find it?
In Cornelius NC.... Craigslist..... Super nice guy I got it from. He's had it at 2 shops trying to get it finished. Then just lost interest. It's sitting on a 1985 chevrolet 1 ton dually chassis, dual wheels in the back and they did a good job tubing it out. I hate that it's on a different chassis but safer especially with the weight of the paint we haul. Listening to the guys horror story on the shop, makes me almost want to start a broker deal for people wanting to get their vehicle restored and not get screwed over, but if I come home with another business idea, my wife will grind up rat poison for my morning coffee. (by the way she was forced into the paint business courtesy of me) and I have done a terrible job training her.... So she says Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
She agrees and wants to do WA800j for the Midcoat pearl on the white but go a little more yellow tint on the white base before pearl is laid on. (she's thinking way ahead) The good thing is, I am extremely slow restoring cars so I am going to make a colored epoxy to prime it, so it takes on a somewhat patina look for a while.
