I'm building a g***er and trying to mount a steering box without looking too bulky or having to notch the stock inner frame structure. I'm looking to install a rack and pinion unit on my narrowed 63 Econoline front axle, this axle is now under my 63 Ranchero. I had the axle narrowed 6 1/2 inches to match the original width of the stock front suspension. My question is, has anyone found rack and pinion tie rod ends that fit the stock taper of the old rod ends for the econoline? I can make my own mounting brackets for the rack and pinion unit but I need to find the ends that fit and what steering rack they came off of.

Seroiusly, Pete is dead on right!

A rack on an axle just isn't a very good solution. It's easy enough to use the stock box and hook it up to the right spindle with a double ended tie rod end from Pete and Jake's or So-Cal. I'm not sure what size the Econoline taper is, but a 7 degree tapered ream is inexpensive to buy, and you can use it to re-taper the spindle arms and Pitman arm to early Ford, and use street rod aftermarket stuff to make it all easy.
