From the PRC thread. What are those two tubes either side of the engine coming from the intake manifold? Saw this on another roadster from the same PRC thread. First I see of them.
They are 4th exhaust pipes. Heat transfer holes in block were opened up and these were added to get exhaust to exit better from 4 inboard cylinders.
I'd like to know now too, never saw that pic before. Also, looks like the car has a radio antenna on it. Seems like a very stripped down racer type roadster to have a radio.
They are the transfer holes my dad said they used to do this to get the heat and exhaust out faster on ford flathead's. It's funny I was just talking to him the other day about this because I had the same idea and am thinking about doing it to my flathead to be different. If you look close the end of pipe is actually in air. How about a crank case vent. This was before pcv valves. On my old Mopar they just vented straight toward the ground. Sent from my SM-G930V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm NOT a Ford guy, especially when it comes to flathead V-8's. The engine does't seem to have any spark plug wires, so my guess is, those are the right and left hand "spark plug bundles" that come off the front mounted distributor. I've heard of, and seen in other photos, the "4th" exhaust header tube; that's what's those two tubes are. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
