I'm restoring a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe 6 Business Coupe. I'm curious if I could get some help decoding the tags?

    Fender Tag:
    Style 39-2627B
    Body No. 1078
    Trim No. 74-V
    Paint No. 54-D

    Frame Tag:
    P6EB14259

I've been slowly working at the project for 2 years now, going for original restore. Finally ***embling the ch***is and will see actual progress soon(excited for that). I was avoiding the body as I'm not a stellar body man but I'm working my way into exactly what it should look like. I'd love any tips/info anyone can give me about the car. It was 80% complete when I started the project and I do have questions about what should be original.

I've received both books you suggested. There is alot of info that I needed, I thank you for the tip. Surprised this is the first time someone has suggested it, but very thankful you did.

With that said. Can anyone else maybe help with the decoding of my Pontiac? Maybe point me in the direction of someone that could ***ist me? This is what I know and would like to know.........

    Fender Tag:
Style 39-2627B 1939 Deluxe Business Coupe
Body No. 1078 Does this mean number 1078 produced in 1939?
Trim No. 74-V I haven't been able to locate what any of this mean.
Paint No. 54-D I haven't been able to locate this "54" color, but I've found the "D" means fenders were painted to match. I know black paint was under the green paint we stripped on the exterior, and the interior metal was painted brown.
Edit: The paint code chart mgtstumpy posted shows a 4 digit code. Could 2254 be my color, Saturn Gray?

    Frame Tag:
P6EB14259 I haven't been able to decipher this either.

2254-D Saturn Gray metallic would be a guess? Brown interior could be standard GM and others like my 46 Olds with or without wood graining?.The D suffix does indicate that fenders are colour coded to body from Dr. Google again.

Serial number was on front cross member and commenced with 6PEB001 to 6PEB43679. Prefixes are:-
    • P is Pontiac, Michigan;
    • C is Southgate, California; and
    • L is Linden, New Jersey.
Engine number series is 6-486201 to 6-595763

Still working on the trim codes :D I have some samples here however they are not coded to OEM trim codes. I ***ume the wheels would be colour coded to body and that trim would be either wool broadcloth, bedford cloth or mohair.
