I just picked up this '32 pick up and I have what may be an obvious question to some. The bed on my truck seems fairly long..... I see some the same length as mine but I see others which seem shorter. Are there 'short beds' or are they just regular beds that have been shortened.

    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

You do not see many untouched beds I think you should leave it but what ever you do it looks like you have a nice truck to start with. :)

A lot of guys make new beds or shorten them.

My old pickup, this is what it looked like when I bought it.

  11. I am building myself a Hot Rod, but for many years I've done restorations. I hesitate to destroy original parts in good condition. No one is making any more original parts. Shorter beds do look good on Hot Rods, so my vote is to save the original bed and buy a shorter repop for your Rod. If you don't have the space to keep the original bed around, sell it to someone who will needs it for a restoration. They'll be tickled to get a real one.

I love the looks of an original old truck. But overall they make a hotrod truck look disproportionate.
Same goes with the right front spare wheel well on the fender. I think selling this original and buying an aftermarket is a great idea.

  15. My '33 has 6" longer wheelbase than your "32
    I shortened my box 4 5/8" cause 4 3/4" seemed like too much. IMG_20161023_170921.jpg

Thought I heard the theme song to the Waltons when I saw this picture. Just needs a load of rough sawn lumber in the bed.

Thank you all for your input. This truck has survived for 80+ years as is so it would seem a shame to cut it up. I like the idea of researching a short replacement and storing or selling the stocker.

Flowmeister, you're right about that 1/8 inch! Here's a pic of my first hot rod, a '34 Ford pickup (had a '33 cab) in 1970
