Drive 300 miles last night on my 17th birthday to pick this thing up. We drove it back from Santa Cruz and it drives like a dream. I can't wait to get started on this thing, i have some awesome ideas i can't wait to do. Hoping to have it driveable enough to drive down to SF for the Bombshells party at the end of April. I'll post more daylight picture when i get home later today. P.S. The guy i bought the car from replaced the fuel pump to electric so now the windsheild wiper wont work, does anyone know what kind of interchange i can look for from other GM division.
How does an electric fuel pump effect the windshield wiper motor? If the wiper motor is vacuum operated, it should still work regardless of the fuel pump. Probably just needs new vacuum lines.
Yeah,if the wipers are vacuum operated, just find another vacuum source to plug the wiper line into. Nice ride.
Thats what i thought, but apparently the manifold doesn't create enough vacuum to operate the wipers, so Oldsmobile had them hooked up to the fuel pump for a little extra boost. I'm not looking to mess around with converting the whole thing, trust me i thought about, i just want to have them work and replacing what the factory did is cheaper, easier, and quicker.
Yeah I think youre right...I remember a similar problem with mine after I put the ch@@y motor in...hooked wipers up but got nada and didnt really research the prob. I might have an extra DA fuel pump if you wanted to use it.
You should be drawing around 15 pounds at ilde shouldn't you? I would think that would be enough. What about a vac*** storage cannister? You could mount is against the firewall someplace.
You'll want a vacuum canister. Also, you will want to remove the vacuum motor and take it apart carefully. Clean all the old grease **** out, clean the valve and use Translube (transmisison ***m. lube) on the moving parts and re***ble. Should work.
I agree on the lowering comment. I'm thinking lowering blocks for the time being, and a full air system a little later on.
By the way, does anyone know where i might be able to find a glove box liner, or maybe some helpful ideas if i have to build one?
nice olds . Ive got a 55 also except mine is a four door. just got it back on the road. Fusick sells glove box liners and all other kinds of stuff. good luck you have a hell of a start.
Congrats on your new ride. Wish I had one of those when I was seventeen. Now I think you can fit an electric wiper motor of a '56 or '57 Chev it will bolt right on your olds mechanism and even the olds cable will operate it. Good Luck from Dago
If that's the case, then a '57 Ford electric wiper motor should be a direct interchange as well. I forget which way the swap goes, but one group of '57ers is always using the other group's parts suppliers for that particular goodie. Cool '55. I love fifties Oldsmobiles.
If you want to lower it, I lowered mine nicely front and rear with lowering blocks. 3" Pep Boys specials out back, homemade ones upfront (lower spring plate) Only interference was making longer sway links as they bolt to the spring plate. Rode nice, that with dropped uprites and you wouldnt need air ride and still retain nice ride.
Here's mine. Dropped three inches front and rear. No problem except I had to replace the front bump stops with shorter ones. Good luck.
Man, i'm getting killed. I have aleaky master cylinder and it looks like all the drums need to either be replaced or rebuilt. Think i'll just cry myself to sleep tonite. Anyway, took my girlfriend for the inagrual cruise around town, that made me feel a lot better.
