I'm definitely not gonna make the 1500 lbs limit for a fenderless roadster here in California so I need to make some temporary fenders that are removable. Probably use some 5/16" bar stock to mount the fronts to the spindles and rear to the frame. 6" wide tires up front and 12" in the rear. Hoping to find something at Turlock next week. Maybe trailer fenders that I could widen? What do you guys suggest? Pics would be great!
Do you need them for an inspection to register the car? I'm betting there are several thousand hot rods running around California that weigh well over 1500 pounds that don't have fenders. Mick
What kiwi Jeff said worked for me. Note the gussets on the struts. Original plain struts broke from fatigue.
Again... how much does your car weigh? You mentioned that in the first post. I ask because I've never read that weight was a factor. And as posted earlier...... there's a **** load of Hot Rod's in California running around without fenders.
I weighed mine ( 34 roadster) without the body, just the frame, engine and 1 seat on a piece of plywood and I was already over the 1500 lbs. I tried but since I already had pink and registration they never looked. Drove for several years and no h***les other than coming home from a wet billetproof a few years ago every left turn soaked me. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Down here fenders are mandatory and the above fenders are simple and what almost everyone here does to p*** inspection. They do come off and end up in the trunk from time to time. No fenderless laws at all. They need to cover 1/3 of tyre cir***ference like this to be legal.
AVater and mgtstumpy are those motorcycle fenders on the fronts? Also, luv the simplistic style on the rears! Keep the photos comin'!
Don't know, they are readily available over here or made from spare tyre covers. Some run them through a bead roller to add the rib which makes them more rigid and less prone to flopping around. That's why you need well engineered braces, our roads are s**** and it's easy to develop fatigue cracks leading to breakages.
Using fibregl*** fenders moulded off a Triumph. The struts are forks from 1920's bicycles. Extreme toe in here ;-)
