Been there, done that. January 12th 2003 The boss came around the corner of the building this morning to find me in a moment of meditation as I waited for the air compressor to catch up to the sand blaster.

3300 lbs of sand!:confused: .... I did a 65 Mustang several years back, everything but the interior, had a bare shell on a rotisserie, plus all the hood trunk and doors. I spent more time sweeping up and straining the sand than I did blasting. I'd be surprised if I used 300 lbs of sand.

Common problem no matter how big your compressors, sandblasting will eat up some air. HRP

I know what you're saying. Been there done that. I lived in Pensacola for four years and in the summer when I walked out the door to go to work it was like walking into a wall of oatmeal. Welcome to southern living.

We do all kinds of blasting: sand, media, walnut shells, gl*** beads, shot, soda, you name it. Most is not as dirty as sand but all gets in every crevice. Our latest unit uses water injection to keep metal cool (supposed to not rust for 4 days) but still haven't tried out in the middle of a hood. Probably use a hood bound for the crusher first. With 3300#'s of #5 sand we could do every part on four cars right down to the inside of the ash tray. Good unit, right nozzle size, right pressure, right technique uses about 800#'s per car. Oh yeah, I also hate it.

Also builds heat from lack of cutting action and continued dwell time.

Closest I ever got to that stuff was over 50 years ago ....neighbour asked me and 2 buddies if we would inload a 40 foot box car full of bags of shot . Sure , we would do anything for a buck . It took us part of 2 days to do it but we did and I'm going to say got 10 bucks each .....big money for a kid back then .

Never again would I venture near bags of shot !

Sure, it is dirty and always done on a hot day, but beats the frustration of wiring. Bob

Sandblasting is fine when it works. Frustrating when the air isn't dry enough.

Oh yea, count me a**** the haters, worst part is waiting for the air. I also found that I could reuse the sand only once, maybe twice, before it lost its edge. This may look like a thumbs up, but I was trying to give the finger to sandblasting, but my hand was too cramped from the damned blasting. This was early in my sandblasting career, did not take long to ditch the Tyvek suit.

I had a pretty nice sandblasting setup on two wheels. About four years ago somebody walked off with it. I didn't bother to file a report. That may be some indication of my feelings toward that equipment.

Wusses! I sand blasted a complete VW pan that had been in a fire with only a pair of goggles on! No gloves, no suit, springtime with a nice breeze blowing to my back to blow everything away from me. Sure, I got sand in my hair and beard, and down my clothes, but as soon as I finished, I hit the shower. Probably should have used a mask, but I was young and dumb back then. Used about 3 bags of sand IIRC. Had one of those siphon feed blasters, had to stop every once in a while and bump the sand back down in the bag and reset the siphon tube.

Never used the damn thing again.

My first try at sandblasting was many years ago before I had a real sandblasting setup. I borrowed a sandblasting gun from a co worker. It was one of those Craftsman can types that look like a spray paint gun.
I had read that sandblasting should be 50-90 psi ( don't recall where I read that!) Anyhoo, I filled the canister with sand, connected it to the air compressor, turned it on and promptly blew out the bottom of the canister.
I felt guilty for ruining my buddys tool so I told him I liked it so well that I wanted to buy it. After buying it I told him what I did. I get razzed for that still.
