Hi guys, I just wanted to get some opinions on Porter Mufflers. I have a 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint with a 331 and a 2.5in exhaust. I have 40 Flowmasters on currently, but the car just doesn't sound enough like a muscle car. For those with Porters I'd love to hear your thoughts. Many thanks, Hans
porter mufflers are the best. Go to their web page or google, youtube porter mufflers to hear them on different motors, and vehicles. You can compare smithy, porter, flowmaster...... that's how I chose Porters.....
I have them on my Impala with a 235, split manifold, and dual exhaust. One side is a longer muffler and the other side is a shorter one. It sounds better than the Smithys I've had before and Flowmasters, while they sound good, just don't make the sound a 63 anything should make. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I love Porters but don't know if I would describe it as a muscle car sound. For the muscle cars of my youth it was Cherry Bombs. Porters are mellower not obnoxious.
Sorry guy's those rapping Porter mufflers on that Corvette sound horrible. How can anyone call them mellow all they do is rap? No mufflers would sound better. Gary
Hi guys, Thanks so much for all your advice and reviews. I really appreciate it. Moriarity, the sound of that Vette is simply incredible!
Since my last name is Porter, I've always thought that I should put Porters in my rod. Now I guess I just need to figure out what size pipe I'll need for a 351W with a R/V cam and an appropriate medium riser with a four-barrel. I like the sound in these clips. Just right. Kinda like Bullit mustang.
Porters give a more "back then" sound than muscle car sound. I want a pair on the 292 six going in my 48 but than I want that twin pipes on a straight six sound on it. I've got a set of no name turbos on my 71 GMC that give a nice muscle car rumble to it. Sounds just right for what it is.
Some people say an H pipe gives more of a modern muscle car sound, could try that first, if you haven't already.
I don't like ANY kind of performance oriented muffler with no tail pipe, but that's me. One thing about that, if you try it and don't like it, you can then add the tailpipes if you build it with that in mind. As for pipe size, the larger the pipe ID, the deeper the tone, I like 2.5".
I've been very happy with the sound of Porters. Like someone else mentioned, I'd also add an H-pipe if you don't already have one installed.
An H pipe will smoothen out the sound, make it not as raspy, and quiet the sound a bit as well. The H pipe will also boost low and midrange power a bit.
Hi guys, Really appreciate all the advice. I ordered a set of Porter shorty mufflers and will look to fit them this week. I'll post some sound videos once they are on the car. The motor has been on the dyno and makes 456hp at 7000rpm. Hopefully it will have the bark now to match the proverbial bite. Hans
