Projects 39 FORD sedan to coupe

it's a dumb question but has anyone ever made a coupe out of a 1939 ford 2 door sedan . was wondering if there is a difference in the wheelbase and back fenders.

 

Someone here on the HAMB has and made a good build thread on it. I'll see if I can find it.

 

The wheel bases are the same. If you were doing a chopped custom it would actually be pretty easy build. Really just have to purchase a decklid and a couple replacement panels.

I put a rusty '39 coupe roof/quarters on the rest of a '39 four door.

The doors on the 2 door sedan are longer than the coupe and 4 Dr sedan doors. You'll have issues with the quarter windows........ unless you built it as a 3 window. This could look awesome if you followed the shape of the 35/36 3 window doors.

The rear fenders are the exact same sheetmetal, and the inner wheelwells are the same too. But as said, the outer quarter sheetmetal is different.

I have the remains of a fireball coupe, and recently purchased a rough tudor to use as a donor for rehabilitation someday.

 

Yes I turned a 40 4 door sedan into a 2 door coupe chopped and slightly wedge sectioned in the rear with leaned a and b pillars. A lot of the pics are in my albums in my profile page. This car

 

Same wheelbase. 4 door and coupe same b pillar location and door length and rear fenders I believe are all the same but I'm not totally sure. I used sedan fenders

 

Check with Field Ferrar at Metal Union. He is on Facebook and Instagram he is doing one now on a 39 zephyr and has done a 36 sedan into a 3 window.

You don't have to answer this when I think about your question the only words that comes to my mind is why? From what I have seen built on the HAMB it certainly can be done if you have the skills and patience required.

 

My 1940 Ford Coupe had no floors. I found a 4 door sedan body that was upside for many years. Floors were solid. I grafted the lower half of the sedan onto the top of coupe. Used the sedan wheel wells as well. The B pillar worked from the sedan. Doors are the same width. Just the door top has a different curve at the back of the door.

First reply should have been , what is your skill level ? Anything can be done with enough time ,skill and tools. How many half finished projects are covered up in the back of someone's shop taking up space ? If you are willing and capable ,then go for it. Just don't chop up a car that you could have sold and paid a good chunk for the one that you really want.
I am 67 and have been salvaging unfinished projects since I was 14.

Keep the Tudor! Nothing wrong with it. Do I wish my '40 Tudor was a coupe? Yeah, sometimes, but it has been in my family since early 1965. Dad would roll over in his grave! I had a '39 Coupe years ago and two '40 pickups. The Sedan is staying til I die, then going to my son, then his son..
