I'm redoing the front end on my 41 Ford business coupe. It has a stock sway bar but it is pretty small. Also, all the bushings and ends are wore out. What are you guys using for sway bars on straight axle cars? Mike
It looks like the ones from CE only fit IFS systems. I want to run an I beam on mine. Any other suggestions?
you didn't look hard enuff..they have them for I-beam axles http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/page68.html
Another vote for the CE parts here. I recommend a front panhard and a rear sway bar, too. I used a Pete & Jakes panhard - nice and lone and it's an easy retrofit using some factory holes on the frame.
Go with the CE's as others have said. Don't do the front without the rear bar. The rear bar will get you around a corner. the front alone will just promote more understear. Easy install for both. Dan
Yes, I used the rear kit also along with the sway bar kit. The old '41 doesn't lean in the corners much at all and has a firm feel. pigpen
I ordered CE's kit for putting in a late model engine and transmsion, along with the adapter plate to bolt in a power steering gear box. I wonder if CE's front sway bar will fit a stock I beam axle?
They furnish two stamped steel brackets that fit to the lower end of each radius rod bolt. (The one going through the axle.) Then, there are two extensions with rubber ends that attach to the two brackets. The sway bar then attaches to the ends of each extension. There are then two "U" fittings with rubber inserts that hold the sway bar to the frame. pigpen
Pig pen, Thanks a ton for the above post. I see how it works now. I'll order up one as soon as money permits. Doc
You are most welcome. On the '38 with the stock axle, I used a reversed eye spring with one or two leafs removed. That got the front end down just enough without dragging spare parts on the pavement. pigpen
