I bought this crate engine 6-8 years ago. It's been in storage since then but now it's going into my Nova. Was told it was a 350/290 but it can't be..[emoji853] After a week on internet I think it's a 90's truck/van engine..
    Anyone able to identify it?
I would like to know what cam is in it and the compression ratio. It has a roller cam and mechanical fuel pump.

86 or 87 truck or Camaro engine according to my books. Same engine that I had in my 60 Chevy. Mine had 4 bolt mains and was out of a 3/4 ton truck originally.

    Casting # 14093638 is a 1986 - 1994 350.
Being a crate engine I gather that numbering does not match a normal production car sequencing.as UZB is a 1981 suffix code and a 165hp, 4 bolt C-10 & 1500 truck code.

    Casting # 10110810 are 1991 350 heads with 65cc chambers.

I have a friend with a similar crate engine in his car, I should check his engine number as it's probably similar as he said it was 290hp. I'm sure someone else can decode the engine # coding, V1004UZB and determine compression ration given the chamber volume.

block casting 14093638 was 350 '87-'95 (or '88-'94 in some sources)
date code j030 would likely be October 3, 1990
V stamp is Flint, 1004 would be October 4

it has a 1 piece rear seal, so it's not from 1981. arkiehotrods probably has it right.

the TBI engines had the hole in the block for a mechanical pump pushrod, for a few years. Then they quit drilling it.

Ok, I have had a 87' 305 and a 90' 350 TBI's and they did not have the hole. Maybe some had and some not?

I have an two 87s and a 94 right now, they all have the hole.

  14. let me ask while we are on the subject......if the block has the fuel pump pushrod hole does it also mean it has a lobe on the camshaft ? i've heard some don't

...and by the way it's the cam.spec. I'm interested in, maybe I should get another one before installing it.

This is why I like this forum from the others. No one is afraid to jump and answer a legit question. A ton of knowledge in here even if it is looking up provided numbers. This is the way to ask a question and this is the way to give an answer. Perfect pics go a long way. Good job, SUNN!

I have a 95 tbi in the garage that has the pushrod hole and the drive lobe on the cam. Not all tbi engines are like that, some are drilled for the pushrod and do not have the drive lobe, eccentric or whatever you want to call it, on the cam.

I removed the oilpan today, trying to id. the camshaft but could not find much. Where should I look?
The crank says: #14088526. 4 bolt main.

I'd pull the timing gear and see if there are any markings on the cam under the gear. Most aftermarket cams I've seen have them. Just did that to my Nova, Had CC and a number, found it in a Comp Cams catalog, now I know!

Well now no one knows, it ended up with a new Comp Cams roller 218/224, redone/ported Camel Humps from my old 327, old Weiand Stealth(ported to heads), underdrive pulley+++.... [emoji849][emoji38]
