Need some info help on tachometers. I know both Rotunda and Faria tachs were used/installed in Ford products. Was curious what the difference was between the two.....installed in different models? Thanks in advance.
I'm uncertain as to differences, but the Faria tachs were "OEM" on the 65 and 66 GT-350's. The 65's were in a pod in the center of the dash above the radio, and the 66's were mounted in a cup on the dash.
There is another thread somewhere in the bowels of the HAMB that has examples of period Rotunda/Faria tachs. Tachs were not an OEM-installed item in early '60s Fords/Mercs - they were an over-the-counter accessory that dealers or owners could install. For the early Faria-sourced ones with the larger chromed ring and convex gl*** lens introduced in '62, the Faria logo was replaced with the Rotunda logo - that was the primary outward-appearing change. The tach introduced in '63 for the Falcon Sprint with the camera-case finish and smaller face I can't speak to in terms of its Faria counterpart, but it also could be picked up at the parts counter and installed in anything from a lowly Falcon to a Galaxie 500/XL or Marauder. Variations on the '62-style tach with a Cobra logo that started showing up after the Mustang hit its stride were available over-the-counter as well regardless of model.
The 63 falcon sprint had a factory tach installed, not over the counter. It was manufactured by Faria. The Faria tachs all connect in series with the ignition to the coil.
