I have an 800 series Futon Sun Shield I would like to install on my 1949 Chevrolet 3100 1/2 ton pick-up. I understand that the dog bone side brackets are different for the 700 series and the 800 series visors. Is there also a difference in the brackets for the truck and the car? The dog bone bracket appears to fit on the drivers side but the bracket for the passenger side hit the top of the window frame at the door. I have aligned the doors so they all the gaps line up and close as they should. I know I could re-align the passenger side door to offer more gap between the window frame and the roof drip edge, but then I afraid the door won't close and seal as it should. Is there any other way to install this dog bone bracket so I have the clearance I need? Has anyone had this situation occur? Can the bracket be modified to work? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Tim

  2. I would think that you might have better luck with that question on a low-rider web site. we don't do sunvisors here on the HAMB as a general rule

Thank you for the reply. I'm not building a lowrider, just wanting to add this Fulton visor to my basically stock 1949 Chevrolet truck.

I'll check mine tomorrow. I have one on my dd/only vehicle and I absolutely love it. I hope Mother Trucker stops by to say a word, he knows these visors inside out, a very valuable resource. In fact , give him a search, I know he has posted on this site as to the differences in the bones.[IMG]

I've heard of several complaints that the new visors don't fit well. I would modify the bracket or the visor before I would incorrectly adjust the door for the visor to fit.

This is a traditional HOT ROD site or at least its supposed to be. Hot rods never had visors. Never!

Oh for goodness sake the guy is not asking for righteous opinions . He is asking for fairly technical help on a visor fitment problem. All i can say is i would advise against stripping an aluminium fulton with a 3m strip disk. Lol. Ask me how i know.

  11. you can make the brackets fit easily by hammering them into the fitting shape, grind them and so on, it`s just aluminum.

Cheers and yes, i love fultons

Model A visors were built in nit some dealer installed add on to get more bucks out of car and truck starved buyers in the late 40's the only guys who ran them in the 60's were the old guys who couldn't afford a newer car. Young guys threw them in the scrap pile as soon as they bought the car as they would laughed at if they cruised the Ave work one.

Lots of nice commentary, but has anyone else had this situation occur with a Fulton Visor? What options do I have...Don't install, grind and hammer the bracket to fit, re-adjust door ( NOT), or run fast and hard in the other direction from this project?

I thought that this was a TRADITIONAL for rods and customs? I believe I have seen at least one or two customs with visors!
