Have you looked closely at a 64 Galaxie, they are well within our style here on the hamb. oh, and I agree with =mike= dont be fooled by the more door haters some are ugly but not Galaxies.
**** man a car is a car I say if that's what you are into go ahead and do what ever the fu$k you want to do with it four door or not
My '63 had 4" blocks in the rear with a few of the smaller leafs removed , and 2 turns cut from the front coils . It rode like a ****ing tank on rails . never had any trouble getting in or out of driveways . . . dragging the frame across speedbumps always made people cringe I dont think that car would actually NEED bags . Everything is up inside the framerails , so nothing gets caught on anything under the car . I drove mine like that for years , paso , all around so/cal , everywhere . It was never a problem . I say go budget on it and **** it !
you pimp a wagon homeboy... which was about as cool as a 4dr back in the day. roll it with 4dr's raaf, your concept pic is rad. as an aside, lgh117 wanted to bag his galaxie... in his research he found that people charge more to bag them due to the rear rails which swoop inwards - oddball frame design. i believe he did come up with a way to do it though, if you are interested i can find out.
my handle has nothing to do with what i roll, im building that car for my old man. anyway...it is quite easy to bag these cars, as long as you have the design and fab skills to build a 3 or 4 link..as you gotta lose the leaf suspension. my 64 is getting hydraulics but its roughly the same procedure. use the existing forward leaf mounts for the forward mounts of your lower trailing arms, then whip out some brackets that either bolt or weld to the leaf spring plate on the axle. then you need to put a cross member in between the frame rails approx 18-24 inches in front of the axle so your uppper arms can mount to that (this is for a triangulated or wishbone three link). then weld on some tabs, or tab, to the pumpkin. pick where you want to mount your bags, for more lift and better ride mount them between your lower T arms and frame rail, but you could also mount between axle and frame rails. for the front all ya gotta do is just make some cups like any other A arm front suspension. relocate the shocks (if youd like to run shocks). about what mike was sayin...at this moment my 64 has 4 inch blocks and cut coils, it sits about 7/8-1 inch off the ground as i have 175/70/1 tires...everything is tucked up inside the frame rails, and even at this height you still get plenty of suspension (other than the fact that the frame just hit the ground awfully quickly)...just depends on raw you want to be, ha. if you dont want to bounce around or hit switches a ton you should be able to bag it for 1000 or less easy.
this is really good info - thx all. going to cut in the short term - a little dragging is a good thing. i hope to get this all done in the next 30 - 40 days... i'll post some pics when it's done. -mike- are you going to paso? i think i'm headed up there with tim wallace.
I was thinking about going up in my truck with the bike in back . . . not sure yet though . we will see . I'm getting the F-150 bagged soon so I might need to take it for a road trip
