I've been waiting for someone else to start this post, but it's only 4 days away!! Two separate swap meets within sight of each other with shuttle busses between them. From what I hear, The race track (P.I.R.) is going to open two days before the EXPO CENTER with set-up day on Wed. and Camping/party time thru sunday, I have no space reserved (I'm a buyer not a seller dammit!) so I would like to know some Official H.A.M.B. rest stops (I can buy my own beer) My plan is Race track on Thursday and Expo on Sat. just list the space numbers and I'll print them out before going so I know where the good deals are!
Walt...be ready with the deep pockets on them doors.....and hope for 26-27 coupe doors over the 28-29 pick-up......everyone says they are the same....similar yes, same, No...i am d\going thru the whole make it work of a pickup door on the p***anger side...it will line up with some finess and work , but not as easy as my 27 coupe door on the driver side....make sure they have the outer AND inner Hinges....good hunting... R E D M E A T I paid $450 for the pair....good price then , I am sure they have gone sky high in the last 3 years
Dang. If I cant find a pair at a decent price, I think I'll try to make a set. I need to cut them down for a roadster pickup anyway (former closed cab model a pu). The biggest part might be making the beltline at the top.
Me gonna be there, but my back starts to hurt just thinking about it. Thur at the track & fri at the other one. I'll leave sat. for the m***es and maybe come back on sun. if i'm dried out by then, as it's usually the monsoon seasion that weekend.
Maybe I'll get a stall with a cover and chairs and charge to sit and store beer coolers and parts. probably make more than selling parts a buck a chair, 2 bucks for a cold one, 3 bucks for a hot dogs, 4 bucks for HAMBurger, and a buck a minute for a m***age from the young girls in the tent!
Last year I hit PIR, found a bunch of what I was looking for. The next day I hit the Expo, and the only thing I got there was popcorn. I'll be wearing the HAMB shirt.
I'm going to the track first for the ******** stuff before the weekend browsers (problem alot of sellers won't be there till the weekend.) then Sat. to the main swap at the expo. I only need a few things, but that never stops me from buying for future projects
Look for a guy named Norm Brown, from Silverton, OR.. he runs a shop called Rods & Relics, he may have some doors and/or hinges. I got a complete set of 6 hinges from a guy on the HAMB for $150.00... they need a little work, but they came off the remains of a 26 or 27 Tudor, and that's what I have, and needed them for...Thankfully, my doors are driver's side great and p***enger side decent...
Our car club (Unique Tin) picked up 5 booths at the Track. towards the end of the pit area. i know for sure ill be there from thur afternoon through sunday. gotta pick up the parts i need for the home strech for the '37. im sure my brother will be packin his HAMB T'
I will have a booth at the track and a p*** for the center. I will be early Thursday morning through Sun. I will sporting a HAMB shirt most of the time I will post a number of my booth when I know more. I will be sporting a Blue work jacket with my name on the front and a Isky and Ontario speedway patch on the back. Eric
60's you're an animal, if you can't do it, it can't be done! I'm not going to touch the politic's of the two swap meets and the old club's vs the city. But in the old days when the clubs ran both (the track and the expo center) there were 5500 vendor spaces. when they moved it all to the expo they turned the expo parking area into vendor spaces and came up with 5000 spaces and saved $150,000 cost of the weekend rental of the track. the city of portland didn't like the lost revenue so they raised the rent on the expo center and hired a promoter to run the race track the same weekend. I haven't been to the track the last two years because I can't do both in one day with these 64 year old legs (the minds willing but....) the track has grown and is a more traditional venue and I have to do both this year. the track opens two days early so my plan is the track then two days rest then the expo on saturday, as there is no way to do the expo on sunday vendors start rolling out early but the prices go way down and its like a shark feeding frenzy the last couple hours.
i was down last night (wednesday) for a couple hours, the stalls weren't even filled up yet and i could tell it was gonna be a great year. weather doesn't look so hot for sat. but who gives a ****.
I wandered the P.I.R. swap meet today. I was amazed at what was there, big improvement over last year. I went later in the day, parked up front, and walked in. No one there asking for admission! Of course I found a set of exhaust manifolds in one of the first stalls. Since I was to lazy to carry all that heavy iron around, I decided to come back later. Of course the guy was gone. ****s to be me. Going to hit the Expo on Friday, maybe I'll wise up by then and grab stuff when I see it! There was a BMW bubble car in the lot. I overheard the owner say it was pin striped by COOP when he was in Las Vegas. Striping around the rear hatch was signed 'COOP'. Just an example of two things I would never think to be together. Supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow!
