I am at the point in the restoration of my Solar midget to begin fabricating the exhaust system. Does anyone have a v8 60 powered midget that they could measure the exhaust pipe diameter for me. I am pretty sure it should be 3 inch but I want to make sure.
    Thanks!

You might want to contact Solar Corporation in San Diego. I helped them aquire a car several years ago. An employee group restored it to original condition and is now on display in their lobby. Solar still had the original prints to follow in restoration. A good friend of mine, now retired, led the work. Incidentally, I have a pair of stainless Solar wheels. PM me if you are interested

Thanks for the heads up on Solar Corp. I have four really nice 6 pin wheels with this car.

Yes.....Deucemac has some good advice. PM me as a reminder and I will look to see if I have contact info in my file. I have a Solar and it was updated long ago in the early 1960's with one of the first Chev II 4 cyls. I was in contact with a guy at Solar Corp. about 5-7 yrs. ago who was very involved in the restoration of a Solar for a corporate anniversary event. If I remember correctly, the Solar came out of Iowa. There was a very beautiful poster made of the car by the Solar Turbine Co. I'm sure the gentleman I talked to could steer you in the right direction. I will go thru my file tomorrow. I think the guy I corresponded with also had some drag racing history in California.

It's been a while but I do believe I found the car for them in Iowa. They had been looking on the west coast and we're finding wretched junk. My friend that led the restoration was also a racing photographer and has a build diary of the car. I believe it appeared in an issue of Open Wheel some years ago. Also, if the wheels you have are the stainless ones, hire some armed guards because they are more valuable than gold! Have fun with the "poor man's" Kurtis.
