Technical DANG accidentally dropped a microfiber rag on my beautiful ceramic header !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by '49 Ford Coupe, Jan 31, 2017.

  1. Yes..........STUPID accident. But now it's done and it's a dang mess. The rag melted onto the header, and so I decided that I'd go ahead and let it run for a while and at least burn off the melted plastic. So here's the question.............

Am I screwed? OR is there some chemical that I could use on the black burns before I try to do any polishing on the headers???

Not screwed. Plastic scraper to take the worst of the nastiest off then 000 steel wool with some sort of aluminium polish.

  4. May sound silly but I'd call my local Ceramic coating pall Russ and ask him for advice. I know it will clean off but I'd want to do it with the least negative results. His Ph # is 503-659-4278. Weather you had them do the job or bought them done the receptionest can answer your question.

Your not the only one, i did it with a car cover on my model a. It came off with bush's aluminum polish. Also found out that it will take the "rust" off that can happen to coated headers.

Meeks knows everything about ceramic coating...and the current US economy I found out after my last visit to his shop. He should be about wrapped up on y exhaust system this week. You may have to re-coat that header, not a biggy.

screwed....been there done that, tried everything, no luck

  10. I burned some plastic connector into the ceramic coated header on my Chevy ZZ4 engine about two weeks ago.
Last Sunday I attacked the 4 inch long burn with some triple 0 stainless steel wool.
It was scary rubbing into that beautiful silver finish but no fear.
It cleaned up perfectly but required rubbing very aggressively.
Left a nice polished finish too.

  11. I did the same thing the very first day I put the headers on!! I used a ceramic stovetop cleaning kit. Followed the directions on the box and worked like a charm with zero damage to the coating.

Not too about coating that Russ Meeks doesn't know. I'm glad he was able to come back after the shop incident...
